Coding Wordpress with Visual Studio and PHP Tools

In this cast I want to show how you simply can use Visual Studio in conjunction with PHP Tools for Visual Studio to manage your WordPress-based sites. Its a simple cast just showing project generation and a little bit of debugging.

I got WP Pusher set up on my WordPress and got my WordPress theme repository made through GitHub. Using Visual Studios I can then push my changes out to GitHub and a Webhook is then done over to my server. With a remote connection to the sites DB, I can debug WP code locally, but facing issues with getting it to run after configuring it to the local settings.

I would like to hear about more efficient ways to go about doing this. I considered a git repository on my server but that would be too coupled with the website in the scenario of a data loss/server shutdown.

Pro's: Version Control over themes and my plugins
Cons: The Webhooks action will occasionally time out and I have to manually resubmit

Hello, thank you very much for your post. I have one question. When publishing in Wordpress, it is quite clear that the file structure will be uploaded hopefully without issues to the ftp account. BUT, what about the contents of the database? Obviously, without that the site will not work fine...
