Gotta say this as someone who's had ribs violently broken causing a punctured lung (got hit in the chest by a crackhead with a literal mace, just your average day in Chicago.)

Anyone who makes the choice of soft armor or these half&half plates over steel plate is fucking insane. Just because you didn't die immediately doesn't mean you are out of the woods. Best case scenario, you're still in the fight with broken ribs, no severe internal bleeding. Worst case is broken sternum/ribs, and sharp bone fragments in your lungs and heart.

I'll pass on the weight savings.

The back plate deformation alone will kill you from internal bleeding. That is way outside the NIJ rating for deformation by looking at it.
