Continuous Harvest of Fresh Garden Produce! (Zone 5)

Показать описание
We strive for a continuous harvest of fresh produce throughout the year. This is made possible through a combination of season extension and succession planting. Today I share 3 specific examples of succession planting in our garden.

OYR is all about growing a lot of food on a little land using sustainable organic methods, while keeping costs and labor at a minimum. Emphasis is placed on improving soil quality with compost and mulch. No store-bought fertilizers, soil amendments, pesticides, compost activators, etc. are used.

I'm so jealous of your lush garden. Here, the critters seem to regard my plantings as a free vegetarian buffet. I caught a gopher just a couple of days ago. Between the gophers, rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks, gardening isn't practical here. I'm lucky if I can grow a few flowers.
P.S. I always smile at Oscar, the cat who thinks that he's a dog.

Patrick,
This video series is spot on!!! Out of everything I do, getting a handle on the planting schedule has been the hardest part of gardening for me. I truly want to have something growing at all times, but, it gets a bit confusing when you factor in crop rotation, plant families, sun patterns, etc.

This video series is gonna be VERY helpful! Thank you, so much!

P.S. What medium did you plant the potatoes in, in the Geobins?

P.S.S. My Geobins are FINALLY maintaining a steady 140° temp this spring, after I paid more attention to your addition of the chop and drop and nitrogenous material. I upped the amount of coffee grounds I was adding, and began "feeding" the bins with veggie peels I collect in abundance from my local food store. The produce guy goes through the aisles EVERY day pulling the old/expired vegetation from the shelves. This gets held in storage (5 gallon buckets), to add to my Geobins, as needed. Feeding the Geobins has made a tremendous difference, and, whereas I collected exactly TWO worms from my Geobins last year, I can't NOT run into them today!!

Hugs!

I wonder if the folks in a similar area/weather would appreciate knowing in advance which veggies u will be starting, so they can have them on hand and then plant them also when u do. Kinda like Jake Mace's seed bank box sending out a certain seed to plant a certain month, like a fool proof gardening plan. 😀 -katrina

Always an Amazing Garden! Love your channel! I lived in Bucktown area of Chicago most of my life but moved to the country for a chance at growing my own Organic food. I didn't have anywhere to grow inground cause my house was surrounded by decks. Love your recipes too! Thanks for being such an inspiration!

It's so warm here in Zone 9 my outdoor worm bins have been taken over by black solder larvae. Too bad I don't have any hens.

As always a really encouraging video, thank you for taking the time to educate and inform us. Could you go around your yard and give a list of what you grow?
I am envious that your garden is several weeks ahead of ours here in the UK where our last frost date is 15th May.
