How to Harvest Cilantro #harvesting #cilantro

Begin harvesting cilantro once the plants reach 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) tall. To harvest, snip off the leaves with scissors. This will encourage new growth and prevent the plant from bolting. Harvest the entire plant at once or pick individual leaves as needed.

I start cilantro in spring, get a couple harvest before july, let it go to seed, collect the seed, plant again in the fall.

I am of the 1% of the population for whom cilantro tastes like soap! And that's why I never ate store-bought, or prepared guacamole!
Until I made my own guacamole using parsley instead. No more soap flavor.

I think we discourage flower production too readily. I get why, but people should plant enough for both harvesting AND flowering. Cilantro blooms in particular attract the tachinid fly, which is a natural predator to Japanese beetles.

If you can, overwinter your cilantro (it’s quite cold hardy) so that it bolts at the first sign of spring. You’ll be happier that you did when the beetles show up mid spring / early summer

I make my own Bees wax cloth wrap and i wrap my cilantro with it. It lasts quite a long time.

Planted it twice last month and none sprouted.

Wow my cilantro already started to go to seed. I wonder if I cut the entire plant if it will go back to just producing leaves?

are you supposed to harvest it quite small/young? my cilantro is not the most flavorful or tender, and its leaves are bigger than i think is usually at the stores. 🤔 i probably shouldn't neglect it just because it was a volunteer from the previous owner of my garden plot. edit: ahh let me check the full video

Be aware that this reseeds readily. I let it go to seed once, due to life and it’s as persistent as any weed, lol. 3 years later...
