Yamaha MODX6 - My First Impression & Thoughts

Sharing my initial thoughts on the MODX6 after just plugging it up and after using the Montage for over a year.

Nice demo. I'm impressed with mine. The damper sound on the Piano sustain pedal blows me away. They got it perfect.

Finally a digital synth worth purchasing. And the price. I would have gone with the Montage (because of the 4 analog outputs) but the MoDX is 1/2 the price for 98% of the synth. I will just have to use the 10 USB outputs. I am looking forward to hearing more about your comparison to the Montage. For the MoDX to be less than 1/2 the price Yamaha must of cut out lots of good stuff like power transformers, keyboard quality, case quality.

You can turn off the beep in the Utility screen > Settings > System > Beep.

I have a montage 6 which has an excellent keybed but is a bit heavy for carrying around, and I tried out a modx6 at a store, I have to say the keybed on the modx 6 is really not good at all, to the point where iI feel it's not really useable as a musical instrument, the sounds are great but the keybed is really poor, like the mx or roland FA 6 or some cheap midi controller. Never mind all the comparisons, if the keybed on the instrument is not up to par then whats the point in going any further. As far as I can tell all these kind of rompler/synth boards from all makers in this price range have poor quality keybeds with no aftertouch. Such a shame.

I appreciate the video! How do you feel like it compares in terms of sounds to software? I'm just getting back into music after years of not doing much. I've got Komplete and am looking for a keyboard now. I was debating buying a true midi controller like the Arturia KeyLab MK2 49 or a MODX or MX workstation that actually adds more sounds as well. I know they're different animals but what are your thoughts on some of the acoustic instruments like brass, strings, EPs, etc. in the MODX/MX vs Komplete and a midi keyboard?

It also has rhythm..which the Montage does not have, and apparently..a matrix that interprets a beat by what you're playing. If true, that's dope. Montage was just too much synth for me. Wanted it, but the price was a very strong deterrent. This one, I got. A pretty legitimate, hi tech synth, for half the price of Montage. I got the 61, because it's super compact, but still very powerful, at a very reasonable price. I compared the stats side by side to Montage and technically, they are much closer than one would think given the price difference I've researched the hell out of this synth, and in my view, it's a superior value. I can't justify the price difference. That being said, if I was really commercial, I'd have both. But for now, this is way more than enough. I love it..understandably scaled down, but the power is still there.

Does the MODX have the same sound library as the montage or is the sound library cut down too?

Very nice! About to upgrade from the MX61. I use the wheels a lot and that’s key in the genre I play so I’m skeptical about the upwards location. I know it sounds silly but it matters to me. Because of that, I’m also considering the MOXF6. What are your thoughts on that?

Hi, does it work like an Arranger. Ie, with the same beats and backing instruments (no change), lead voice can be changed?

I’m a Little confused how you would use this in a DAW, since there is no sequencer like the older motifs, do I just have to record one track at a time into logic or ProTools, via Midi, or can I use it as 16 part sound set coming from the synth

Hey bro, I'm really close to getting Modx6, but I wanna know if i can create my own drum Tracks from scratch on this. I don't see a pattern mode to create drum tracks like on the other keyboards. I do understand this is not a workstation but a synthesizer.
And most workstations have this function. If it can be done please make video. Thanks

Does it allow you to load FM tines, MKSensation and Rhodes Affair directly into the keyboard?
