Ship Exit Breakdown

Just a quick before and after of exiting the ship from the latest Dynamo episode (out now!)

Thanks to Rowan Rhys for acting (and exceptional balance) and Sean Farbolin for figuring out the ladder scenario!

Tracking was done in the After Effects 3d tracker. Literally just, like, one click (maybe a little babysitting), and 9 minutes later I had the motion copied into blender and the whole thing blocked out. It was incredibly straightforward. The Blender tracker is crazy powerful, but if I'm being lazy, it's really nice to be able to just click a button.

No tracking markers, living on the edge. As an aside I love the new colour palette and tone these scenes brought to Dynamo, very refreshing!

Step one: shoot the raw footage

Step two: add all visual effects

Step three: profit

the new episode was amazing, an excellent payoff for a couple years of dramatic tension.
I'd recommend adding another link to episode 6 on karmapirates in the vertical menu on the right that contains the thumbnails for the other 5 episodes to make navigation simpler.

The only issue is that the last shot requires more contrast to truly sell the effect. Otherwise great work!

Ian, how to make low poly models without using PBR materials look realistic? I watched your 'short tutorials' and i think we can make low poly stuffs look damn realistic

Hello Ian, hasn't the hair color of the actess been a problem for the key?

Could this have been done with a still camera and importing the transparent image sequence into the 3d scene and moving only the blender camera? Or is the lens distortion too much to do that.

Hey Ian, are you using Eevee? I keep thinking that I'm going to commit to Eevee for the speed. But then I see some people saying "Come one people...Eevee is not a production renderer!" If you are using Eevee, I'm sure a bunch of us Ian devotees would love to see some Eevee optimizations...etc.

I really love the CG..but it's kinda missing the shadow or shes just too lit while the CG are underexposed.

The lighting kinda looks weird. Especially on her.

Not in love w/the lighting here (ex-gaffer): too horizontal, instruments being so close gives the wrong fall-off. Also, a fan would have sold the idea of "going outside".
