I sense a great disturbance in force. As if a billion bushcrafters, ree'd at the same time, over you using bungees, instead of paracord, bank line and knots.

Wow! Randall, I believe you're going to receive a lot of flack over your bungee cords remark. However, I do use bungees when I'm stealth camping as it is quick and easy to strike and egress. I try not to tie any knots or use stakes to secure my tarp. If my position is compromised, I just gather my gear and shove it into my pack and boogie out. When "regular" camping I do tie a ridgeline with 550 or #36 bank line (or even high tensile rope in windy conditions) and use stakes suited for the wind and ground conditions. What amazes me is as I pass by some camps (dispersed camping) there is gear and whatever spread all around the campsite. Your advice to keep your stuff tight is great advice. Nature is not always kind and natural disasters can occur at any moment and you may have very limited time to egress to safety. A lot of burned camping gear was discovered by firefighters in the California fires.

Definately want to see more about that tarp. My back is healing well after surgery and I am getting the itch for fall camping!

Good tips chap, but I avoid bungies. They're heavy, not connected to anything, and as such can be lost, and are dangerous particularly at night. A bungie stretched round a tree on uncontrolled release will do one lap of the trunk, at speed, and the metal hook will hit you in the face, worst case senario the eye.

I buy shockcord, cut it into loop size lengths and tie to all grommets on tarps, poncos etc. They are lighter than bungie, can't be lost and provided more options and ease of set up, particularly a night.

Don't want to appear a smart arse, just share something that works for me.

Great channel chap.

cheers

IMHO, large part of stealth camping is about being practical and saving your time for other things even if stealthiness isn't your ultimate goal. Your tips show it perfectly. Bungie cords are great. It ain't fun messing with long cords and knots when its really windy or if you're trying to set up your tarp between trees that have millions of branches you have to manuever around while trying to tie a simple knot.

Tarps get ripped to shreds in strong winds, and Bungie or black rubber trucker straps work really well at keeping static tension. Great advice !

I always use bungee cords. Plus they have a ton of other uses as well. Never leave home without them.

Das Tarp sieht auf den ersten Blick gut aus, ich bin auf dein GP Video dazu gespannt ob es was taugt ;-) Gruß Torsten

If that’s you’re property you’re in I’d suggest a prescribed fire burn to offer more concealment

Same goes for escape route, I need to practise crawling, doubling back, etc. I tend to just run if I've only thought it out.

Bought two huge silicone bungees on Amazon. Now my ridge line goes up FAST!

Have your tent peak(s) held up on a loop rather than tied at each end. That way you can drop it by slipping one knot in the middle.

Not overpacking is a big one hardly anyone talks about. Just alone to have space for some additional stuff you wanna put in it, clothing that gets too warm, stuff you find along the way etc. ... Some even argue you will pack too much stuff, if your backpack is too big. If you don't have discipline and only pack stuff you really need you have a different problem 😄
