MASSED PIPE BANDS RETURN TO THE CENOTAPH ANZAC DAY 2023

A short march down George St gives us another brief experience of the sight and sound of those Pipes and Drums seen earlier in the Anzac March . This 2023 version is short but i did record the longer 2012 version. The sound attracted a large crowd who followed them into Martin Place. I hope others captured the ceremony at the Cenotaph, laying of wreaths . The original March route from the 50s to recent times went past the Cenotaph in Martin Place so all participants could acknowledge the fallen , usually " eyes right" ...Now that route is not possible due to the trams and Martin Place being redeveloped. It is usual for service associations , Government officials , Consular reps to lay wreaths prior to the March and later . Like the Scottish descendants of veterans. Anzac Day is always April 25 . The history of this day is mentioned above and fully covered in the web pages of the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. All fallen persons who served are recorded at the War Memorial.

There is NOTHING in the world that compares to a Pipei Band. It owns our souls for some reason.

The sound of freedom. After 25 years in PIPES AND DRUMS and as many ANZAC day parades, the hairs still stand on end. Our unit was disbanded in 96 as a part of Army re-structuring. Our affiliation with the BLACKWATCH over 100 years was ended.

Takes me back to the mid-80's when I was a piper in the Pipes and Drums of the REME in the UK. You can't stir emotion with anything like you can the pipes and drums. Awesome vid!

I always imagine what it was like back then, marching towards you like that. You have the feeling that a stone wall is stepping aside.

I can think of few things more powerful than the massed pipes and drums.

Before anyone says anything….

The guy at the end “mis stepping” (re correcting step) is 100% allowed in marching!

IMAGINE being been behind all those pipers, and drummers whilst marching in step at the BACK
Echoes from close up buildings too….!

Hardest position without a shadow of doubt, which means he’s probably one of the BEST there!

Ex British Army Decorated War Veteran who had the honour of marching out to pipes/drums after basic training.

I did not get a good view or video this year, 2024 . Larger crowd around the Pipers .Thats good as the event, the Scottish march to the Cenotaph does not get much pre publicity & in the past the onlookers were mainly passersbys . A very stirring tribute to the fallen Scottish veterans.

The sound and beat are so fantastic, that you'd thing those participating could a least march in step.

The worse thing about marching on ANZAC Day have a pipe band in front of you doing 116 beats and a brass band behind you doing 120 beats. Try keeping in step with that going on. 😅😅😅😅
