I live in Peoria too. Just bought a 1300 square feet house for 55k. My mortgage is less than $600 a month.

As a Poor White Floridian who was born here in destitute poverty, I have already decided to get a bungalow up there. I have always wanted a workers cottage, and Florida's ones are vanishing. Ironic my home state forced me out so old people moving from the Midwest could take it over. Might as well take the homes they dont want for ourselves, legally albeit... Im giving myself a year or two then off I'll go to Peoria in search of my dream house

All the local KKK has mostly passed-away so that certainly helps.

I'm moving there next summer - as a full-time online college professor from the midwest originally, Peoria has everything I want. Short drive to Amtrak into Chicago, huge arts community, huge active LGBTQ community, and an inventory of really great houses for under $150, 000. Make room - here I come!

OMG I am sorry! If you have a family of children, then do not move to Peoria. Look at the crime rate. Look how many shootings look. How many people have died just minding their own business, whether in their home or walking and getting shot and killed? I come from a family of police officers believe me not a place to live. I was born and raised here and left for 30 yrs. I raised, my family but then came back. but not living directly in Peoria I would never again, please do some checking before moving and check why a home is so low. by just saying

I lived in Peoria for nearly three years, and it's by far one of my favorite cities.

Nope, lived there all my life and had enough of the high cost of living, low wages and crime. Utilities alone robbed me blind. Don't even get me started on the fact that that all you see in the winter is gray, muddy brown & dirty white with utility bills that rob you blind. Also, they rarely plow the side roads. I moved 1000 miles away and am extraordinarily happy.

The crime here is crazy but I can't complain. I live on the south side. It's not for the soft and best if you know someone that's been here for life. Don't listen to this chick she is tripping. Move to Edwards are one of the smaller towns even Pekin is safer and better to raise a family. At least B4 you move here check the crime rate chart and see for yourself. Every type of crime seems to find it's way here. Then the police just do mandatory check points and pull people over without any reason but to go through your S**t and they don't care. They literally pulled out drones and blood hounds to find some kids that stole some pride flag this last week. Wasting thousands of dollars. Could have been stopping real crimes. Could have feed and clothed the homeless. Right now the homeless is the worst I ever seen it here. Worst part they did all that and it wasn't the American flag, but they sure did protect that pride flag. They didn't care when the stars and strips got vandalized. Do yourself a favor don't move here research it first everthing is expinsive here. They make your house cheaper just to take all your money a differnt way. If things start improving in Peoria Il. I'll gladly get on here and explain how it does. I dont lie for clicks type s**t

Peoria is ghetto. Ask any local. Lived there for over 20+ years. Don’t ruin it even more.

I was born and raised in the southside of Peoria, my entire life, and I am here to tell you you do not want to go there the gangs, shootings, drugs, multiple serial killers all from that area. My second oldest son still lives there and complains every day of shootings across the street from his house at the liquor store by the Harrison homes, if anyone really cares, please do not move to Peoria Illinois you will put your family in danger!!!

Peoria is terrible. Too much crime. Bad weather. Lots of gun and gang violence.

Prepare to spend 80k and up which is still cheap. But anything less and you’re more likely to be in the hood were I lived. I witnessed my neighbor being brought out in a body bag like the movies😳! When other neighbors broke into my house I sold my house for 20k and left Peoria. The good neighborhood have been becoming more worse year after year so if you do find a good area keep in mind the potential decline.
