In the past few years, the total number of refugees and asylum seekers admitted to the United States has declined significantly. The harsh measures adopted by the Trump administration in particular all but decimated the country's refugee resettlement infrastructure, and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has only exacerbated existing issues. This panel will highlight the very real challenges facing refugee, asylum seeker, and immigrant communities, and will provide insight into the ways in which attorneys working on the front lines advocate for these communities using a combination of direct legal services, community legal empowerment, and policy advocacy.

SPEAKERS:
Robyn Barnard (Human Rights First)
Yael Ben Tov (International Refugee Assistance Project)
Stephanie Gee (International Refugee Assistance Project)
Anuscé Sanai (Tahirih Justice Center)

This session was recorded live during the 2021 Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair.
