We must embrace the New Age with all of it's amazing technology, and freedoms, but we must also jealously grasp, and guard the treasures of the past!

They used this excellent music for the theme of "Prize Movie" featuring Rita Bell, a Detroit area favorite through out the 1960s & 1970s. Oh the memories.

Wow, staying home from school in Detroit(sick day) and listening to this theme music for Rita Bell's Prize Movie program on WXYZ tv channel 7. Any Moms and kids remember those mornings in the 1960s? What a great tune!

In Tanzania 🇹🇿 when we hear this to this song, we remember one of the prominent sports journalists, Ezekiel Malongo. He was those sports anchors that you would look forward to listening to their sports audition. This song was used as a soundtrack to this audition. R.I.P Ezekiel Malongo.

1964 must have been the year in which America "discovered" Al Hirt, as both his HUGE singles, "Java" and "Cotton Candy" were released and included on back-to-back LP's that year. I was in Jr. High school a few years later and those 2 songs were all the rage with the Swing Band (which I wasn't "good enough" to be part of.) Those two songs became MOR (middle-of-the-road) AM radio "go-to" staples for DECADES. They STILL sound great, 60 years later !!!

Thank you for this classic from Al Hirt - In 1967, my father bought a Ford T-Bird, to me, it looked like the inside of an airplane. It had a 8-track player and "Cotton Candy" was part of the selection that came with the car. I spent many hours draining the car battery listening to this song, in the stereo confines of the car. I year later, my father would die, the family would come apart, the car would be sold and we lost our house... This melody does bring back many nice memories of a time of innocence and peace (before the storm), thank you, Ciao, L

Our junior high band played this in 1964 and a friend stepped up to do a great Al Hirt impersonation on the trumpet.

SO very happy to hear this song today! Thank you for posting. I owned a copy of the album pictured. My entire collection of "vinyl" was given to a retired navy veteran who had all the equipment needed to re-record these great old songs and remove imperfections (skips, scratches etc) for superior listening quality.

Many years ago, 50 ish i got to play this song as a solo in my highschool band. I have to say it is still the high point of my trumpet career.

Thank you for this!
My Dad worked in an arts painting store in Newhope, PA in the 1960's. Al Hirt came there. He gave my dad one of his autographed LP records as a gift. Thanks again.

I will always love Al Hirt, this song brings back memories of my dad and brother when we go hunting on our old deer lease. We would stop to have breakfast and this song would be playing on the juke box. Miss you dad!
