Replicas: Plot Synopsis
We follow William Foster, played by Keanu Reeves, who is a scientist that specialises in synthetic biology. In the past, he has attempted to use machines to bring humans back to life by transferring their consciousness into a shell. However, this imprinting process causes problems when the robots are energised as they struggle to come to grasp with their transition and have an identity crisis that leads to them destroying themselves.

After his family are killed during a car accident, the character uses all of the means at his disposal to resurrect them and with help of his friend, Clones their bodies, destroys their old ones and uses the synthetic device to transfer their consciousness. Unfortunately, William is unable to resurrect all of his family as there are simply not enough pods to carry out the entire procedure and is forced to choose not to resurrect his daughter Zoe. This causes issues as his family will still have memories of her so he must manually remove all memory of her from their hard drives. In what is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the movie William removes all memories of her and this is a really devastating move, especially with all the reminders he finds with her.

Replicas Ending Explained and plot summary

Keeping Up Appearances
With the cloning process taking so long, people begin to notice that the family are missing and William spirals into a pit of lies to cover up their disappearance which involves sending BRB to everyone in their contacts list. Eventually, he is forced to prematurely release them and figure out how to slow the aging process down that will decay them rapidly if not fixed.

During this William realises that a physical body is needed in order for consciousness to fully transfer which is why the android procedure failed in the past. He uses this knowledge to finally bring his wife back to full cognitive consciousness and some amazing bro science revelation.

The family soon fall back into the groove of things though they begin to suspect that something is not right due to their missing memories and flashbacks of the crash. William still needs to fix the very real issue with the Synthetic failure at his job before the project is shut down so he copies his consciousness with plans to upload it to an android named 345. His wife also discovers what is going on and William informs her of her death which she hides from the children but this causes issues when they all begin to remember Zoe.

Keeping Up With The Jones
To make things worse, William’s boss, Jones, visits him in his home to inform him that he is aware of what William has been up to with his family and has allowed it to continue to see the results. He tells him that this is all military funded in order to replicate brain waves for the army. This would allow the best soldiers to be replicated over and over again. He gives William one more night with his family as a chance to say goodbye and tells him that he will be terminating them after this.

Instead, William beats Jones, destroys the only physical copy of the algorithm that allows the replicas to live, tells his wife what is going on and they escape. Unfortunately, they are captured and taken back to the lab where William discovers that it was his friend who betrayed him and that he never destroyed his family’s bodies like William has asked him to. With no copy of the Algorithm, William is the only one capable of producing it, after Jones kills his friend he is forced to reproduce it.

Replicas: Ending Explained
When copying the algorithm, for Jones he also finally uploads his consciousness to 345 and goes Skynet on Jones and his crew in what looks like I, Robot minus the budget. William asks the machine what it feels like to be in the body who states that it feels like he is still himself.

This was in no way a horror film. Simply sci fi, and bad reviews were ridiculous. It was a great movie

I actually enjoyed the movie, the one big thing that was bad to me was the cgi of the robot especialy in that fight scene near the end of the film, it moved realy awkwardly and strange but other than that, it was a nice movie realy.

I love clone / sci-fi movies and I liked this one. Who doesn't love Keanu? If they make a Replicas 2 I'll definitely watch it! Thanks for taking the time to fill us in on your take of the movie. This is one movie that needs to be watched more than once or twice...very intense!😘

-What happened to the military that were backing the project? How did they just simply transition into 'giving a second life' to patients at the end of the movie instead of all the ideas that Jones was talking about when he revealed the project was for military use? Jones seemed dead set on using this tech for the military but then is just content with this new route all of a sudden? What?
-How did Jones know all the details of Will recreating his family but didn't know that Will had planned to put himself into 345? It was his friend that was snitching to Jones, and his friend knew about this, yet Jones didn't know this pretty important detail.
-Why was his wife so chill about being a replica and having the memory of her daughter erased? There was literally like no conflict or internal struggle over this.
There is more of these I thought of during the movie, here are just a couple I can remember... hahaha

I have a very huge problem with this movie; it's inconsistencies.
1-You can clearly see the scene where he is trying to clone his family and where the dude said he only had 3recipients and so one of his family members would not be able to be cloned, but he acted as tho that was going to be forever; even when the dude said that, in 3 months, they would have another recipient and what's even less comprehension is the fact they didn't mention if yes or no they could use the same recipient twice; which means after he would done cloning one of his family members for 17 days, why not clone Zoe in that same recipient afterwards? Dude acted as if it was totally impossible to bring back Zoe. He deleted her from the memories of his entire family instead of temporarily hiding her from their memories until he brought her back because that would make more sense, no? He was initially fighting hard asf to bring his family back but s small inconvenient with Zoe and he just gives up like that? Without even envisaging something else on the long run?
2-His friend is urging him to succeed in the project because according to his friend, "He, him and his cloning family could go to prison" but then again nobody even knows about the cloning he's done, so how exactly can they go to prison? I would better understand if his friend told him he was favorable he succeeded in his projects to secure that the cloning of his family wouldn't go wrong, but he said they would go to prison if he didn't succeed?! It makes no sense!

First time I had to come to youtube to understand the ending of a movie, I wasn’t sure what deal they struck with Jones or if it really was his consciousness on that body. Also, how did he bring Zoe back? Didn’t he erase her backup when he deleted her from the family’s memories?
Anyway, I did enjoy the movie.

Interesting where we have a movie where the dead return and arent cannibals (a million zombie movies) demons (pet sematary) or souless monsters (chiller, lazurus effect)

I havent seen the movie yet. But thanks for the review and ending. Its just so 😢 sad that Keanu had to play a clone movie about his family. Keanu lost a daughter and girlfriend in real life. He also lost his friend River Phoenix. His sister was sick before. Poor Keanu. I hope he stays strong. Jesus loves him and you. Keanu is so sweet and such a great actor. I love him as John Wick. He kicks butt as John. He has a beautiful loving spirit.🙈😎💖😜🙏👏💚💜💙💛

It was a bad movie. Bad CGI and lines. Bad acting and story. I would need to stop thinking to say that movie was ok. There are a lot of stupid ideas in this movie. No one was looking for them! Also why didn't he start to do CPR with kids? Theye drowned, you could still save them! Why didn't he clone Zoe? Just wait 17 days for first 3 to finish, then create Zoe. Why did he remove her from their memory? Everyone else remembers Zoe, government has papers for Zoe. WTF! It was so many shitty things I cannot even remember them.

I’m glad I found this because I was confused by the ending. But I loved the film & the performances were great. I also loved the song that played at the end of the film “I Will Live Forever” suited this film just perfectly. Great review.
