The requirement to become a substitute teacher vastly differs depending on the school district. With my district, in West Texas, the main requirements are 30 credit hours of college credits, attend a teacher's orientation, and go through a criminal background check. However, I know in New York City substitute teachers need a bachelor's degree and a substitute certificate that needs to be renewed every year.
