Wish I knew before I bought mine. That looks as though there's several millimetres of the perimeter of the bridge glued directly to the finish of the soundboard. If every Maton with the AP5 has this glue defect, then it's only a matter of time.

appreciate your insights mate.. I am in the market for a steel string acoustic and was leaning towards a maton, unfortunately I havent found anything i like the sound and feel of as much as these guitars, anyone else have suggestions for alternatives? I've played cole clark and personally i didnt think they came close to matons feel and sound, it was a while back though. I'd rather not have a departing bridge..

That dumb pickup is world renowned brother. Arguably more impressive than the acoustic sound of the guitar itself, which is already great

I’ve owned three and never had this problem, one built in 1994, another 2013 and another 2017, all rock solid

You know... I had my matins for over 20years and never had an issue.... until recently. I don't have a bridge that's falling apart but the piezo pickup holes have shrunk and can't put the aluminum caps on the poles... and I get nasty ground hum from the pickups. Im thinking of taking OFF the bridge and widening the holes with a (bad idea? Hahahahha) or should I try to put copper shielding tapes on top of the poles to have good contact with the top metal strip?

Any suggestion would be appreciated!!

I agree that it’s a poor design, but for gigs, I haven’t found anything else that sounds as good plugged in… what would you recommend?

this vid doesn't take into account how much the bridge gives structural integrity to that part of the guitar, not to mention any bracing or blocking behind it. ignore

Very interesting insight. Have you had a similar experience with Cole Clark’s construction?

Ownedand played dozen of Matons, never seen this happened. In fact they are braced harder than piezo strip bridges. Probably bad batch of glue.

I’ve had six Matons (currently an 808 Artist and 808 Fix) — never had a single issue with them. Friend has three Maton and gigs extensively with them and again not a single days problem. I accept it may be a weak point but I wonder just how many Maton guitars go into shops for this specific issue. The guy who has set up my guitars have never commented on this so it’s new to me.

I have a messiah and it's great. I don't think people need to worry but I can't help feeling that if something happens to the AP5 pro I'm screwed. Acousticly they're worthless in my opinion, and fixing or replacing the AP5 Pro in EU seems rough

True with my 1968 built 12 string
Not the case with all of my other Matons

I had heard that Maton’s aren’t what they use to be.

Owned four of them, two of which are over 20 years old, the other two (an ecw80 and a matching 12 sting) since 2010. One of them lives on my yacht in high humidity and is fine. It has a hard life. Another went swimming in the sea when I had too much to drink on another mates boat and overturned the tender on my way it got a little warped in the sound board, but I resoaked soaked it, put some brackets on it and its still plays fine... (if its still a little wavy to the eye). The two newer ones are my gigging amps and have played a thousand shows without letting me down. Sample size is important. There are a lot of them in Australia so its likely they would be common in Australian workshops. Having said that, if a bridge ever lifts I will give you a call.

My Maton EM-6 uses the original AP5 pickup. When I connected to the amp, there was a hum noise, and when I touched the connection jack, the noise disappeared. My amp is completely normal when connected to other guitars. I sent the product to Maton, but the company said it was normal, so the company is not responsible for warranty. The hum noise from the pick-up made me uncomfortable when I was performing live.

I looked into the internery to find a way to overcome it myself and found that there were many people who were in similar situations to me.

They taught me to overcome the following: “My problem was ground problem. Some power sockets had no proper wiring or no pro ground, and that's why I had this problem. So, get your own ground fault tester and check power sockets. If that is all OK, then you can try tightening or losening the screws at the bridge pick.”

Does this affect the sound of the pickup? I'm worried about your reply.
Sorry, I use Google
