ARCTIC CIRCLE (March 10, 2016) USS Hartford (SSN 768) surfaces in the Arctic Circle near Ice Camp Sargo during Ice Exercise (ICEX) 2016. In Ice Exercise 2018, U.S. Navy and UK Royal Navy submarines got their readiness to operate in frigid environments tested by breaking through the North Pole ice.

Ok this probably a stupid question but, if you don’t know and you don’t ask, you will never know!

A submarine is an underwater platform for several different weapons types.

It is therefore by definition a ship / boat?

But if it can break through the ice as well does it mean on top of everything else it could be classed as an icebreaker as well?

Wow, obviously they have to highly protect the propeller from the ice. No tugboats (useless even if there was one) up there!

Hilarious. Why don’t the Americans use upward looking cameras to surface in an ice hole? All other countries sub, Raines do. Really one of the poorest trained sub services.
