WET DIGESTION
During dry ashing, there is the possibility of a loss of certain mineral constituents at high temperatures. So, wet digestion of biological material is necessary for the preparation of samples for mineral analysis.
Principle: The organic matter of the sample is oxidized with highly oxidizing acids like concentrated nitric acid and perchloric acid. These acids are partially removed by volatilization and the dissolved mineral constituents are diluted for further analysis.
