In the UK we have a Territorial Reserve for home defence. Although pressure has historically been put on then to serve abroad.

Thank you Olga for the informative video. Its quite wonderful that Ukrainian universities provide free and affordable education. Also since joining an university and starting a family with kids helps avoid military service, young Ukrainians are incentivized for higher studies and early start of family life.

I had 3 male colleagues when working in Ukraine - two of them had been married by age of 24.

Contrast this with US - studying in university means expensive student loans that you pay till you are 40 years old ! Young people postpone marriage due to career and financial burden.

Here in the USA, we Yanks call the officer training department at a university R.O.T.C. (Reserve Officers' Training Corps). I earned a master's degree. I have both asthma and flat feet, so I didn't even bother applying to be an officer in the US Navy or Coast Guard.

In the past even Germans in wheelchairs have been conscripted in the Bundeswehr for office work. We had a special recruits health category T7 for those people. They have been freed from any form of battlefield training.

Conscription in Germany is since 2011 dormant, but only dormant during peacetime.

There is already a video of people being taken from a University to a bus for the draft/mobilization in Russia. Along with other people exempt according to what Shoigu said.... yet the legal work does not say the same think, there are no limits on the legal stuff.
