Jim Cornette has always said that Hogan didn't have to wrestle that style in the US. It prolonged his career. But we do know that the leg drop was a big part of his hip problems.

He just was smart enough to know that American audiences wanted a superhero and Japanese a wrestler

Glad it’s finally being acknowledged that Hogan could wrestle, he just didn’t have to lol Vince wanted the larger than life powerhouse, with a simple set of moves that made him seem unstoppable…so that’s what Hogan gave him.

These are not clips from Hogans time in NJPW, these clips are from Hogans match against Tenryu Genichiro for the SWS promotion. I recommend every one watch Hogans match against Antonio Inoki from 1983, its Hogan like you've never seen him before.

For a man Hogan's size he could execute moves with ease... Guy was very athletic...

That's the WWF style. Slow and exaggerated movements. It's still that way to this day. Watch any wrestler over 200lbs, even if they go to the top rope, the moves in the ring are slow and exaggerated.
Hogan was a good wrestler, but he was a better worker, and he worked the match that the crowd wanted. In Japan it was Japanese style, in AWA it was AWA style, and in WWF it was WWF style.
But Hogan has always said he preferred to wrestle in Japan.

Thats why even though I cannot stand what he represents in wrestling I defend him when people say he can’t work . Thats bs . He was forced to adapt his style to appeal to children in WWF . Simplicity paid the bills .

He sidnt need anything but a body slam and a leg drop to become the most entertaining wrestler ever for about 20 years

Hogan was like 6'6 300 lbs moving like that, really impressive

He was trained by Hiro Matsuda. Back then, whoever trained you took responsibility for your success or failure. Hogan could wrestle. His character didn't have to.

He also wrestled for 400 days in one year.

I ALWAYS watch old-school pro wrestling content, but this video was recommended to me when I was watching Alphaville's music video for their song, "Big In Japan." I now understand why. :D

Hogan really had a mind for the business, he understood wrestling crowds btmetter than anyone ever and knew what ti change and what to keep the same

This is surprising....I've always thought of Hogan as a brawler

Not necessarily better. He was smart enough to understand where to show his skills or be the showman. Remember guys, he was trained by hiro matsuda a very serious trainer whi broke hogan's leg.

Wwe has always done this. The top guy has 5 moves. Even Austin and the rock. Its like going to a great rock show, they used to do a massive catalogue but now it’s just the hits.
