We Built Our Own In-Ground Pool - DIY Pool and Spa (We Saved $125,000)
My wife (the Designer) decided she wanted a pool, so I (the DIYer) decided I was going to…DO IT MYSELF! Kinda…
I signed up for their Homebuilder DIY program. They provide you with a pool design, give you access to an entire DIY course, and consult you every step of the way.
Overall, the project took us about 5 months to complete, which includes a few weather delays, unexpected side projects, and doing the decking and turf myself.
My initial quotes for a basic pool were about $150,000, but after adding in a unique diamond paver design and turfing our entire backyard, my estimate is between $225,000 and $250,000.
We ended up spending about $125,000 on our DIY Pool and Spa, including the DIY Pools and Spa design and program, all the subcontractors, my 40 trips to Home Depot and Lowes, and everything in between.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be doing a DIY Pool and Spa series where I’ll breakdown the cost, savings, process, mistakes, and lessons we learned doing this project.
Here are a few ideas I have for the video series, but it’s evolving as I map it out.
DIY Pool Series:
DIY Pool Build With Pavers and Artificial Turf
DIY Pool: The Truth About How Much It Costs To Build Your Own Inground Pool
DIY Pool: Mistakes We Made And What We Would Have Done Differently
DIY Pool: The Honest Truth About How Much Money We Saved
I’m a huge fan of DIY in general, but I must say building a pool was a little intimidating, since you don’t really have any room for error.
I’ve done all kinds of DIY projects in our homes, but usually if I make a mistake, I can fix it for not much extra time or money. When you’re doing something as permanent as pool, the stakes are higher!
I hope you enjoy my DIY pool and DIY pool series. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or ideas for what you’d like for us to share in the future!
