Dude, you just forget how terrifying Grand line is because we travel with the Straw hats. They are busted as s*it. Remember Eustass Mid and Trafalgar. Yeah, we saw how Emperors delt with them. Kreig made it to the grand line because he probably aligned himself with an Emperor. No one survives in grand line, we saw what happened with brook's crew.

i would argue that this is just what happens when a story progresses the grand line when u heard of it felt that fear and terror the the "pirate graveyard" one we got there the straw hats had to grow so much to the point there was a 2 year timeskip when the big whale boat gets to the dark continent theres gonna be a large amount of terror with crazy creatures danger and people will die but the show is going to have to tell a story so the focus naturally draws away from that as the characters and plot grow you talk about your first concept of the grand line and you having the concept shows the success of the grand line as a narative point wait until we are in the dark cont for a few months and it will for sure be focused on the story of dealing with the threats rather than cowering and undermining the threat the characters will grow to match luffy and the strawhat crew at this point to a normal pirate is what mihawk was to don krieg

Grand line = Explored, the power struggle is what makes it terrifying (Aka strong as duck people)
Dark continent = unexplored wildlands (possibly aint even any people)
Its like comparing Los Angeles to the Nevada desert, the desert (dark continent) seems more terrifying, but you are statistically and generally more likely to die in LA

I feel like taking the grand line from the perspective of the straw hats ain't exactly fair. Luffy in a month on the grand line beat a warlord who's made of sand, Don krieg woulda died and luffy just said watch this. I ain't seen hxh so I won't talk on the comparison but honestly the grand line would be scary to most anyone who's not a straw hat or a native. And I'll use laboon as my standing point since luffy immediately decided it was a good idea to fight a whale most people would be scared of. Can't trust the straw hat perspective, plus luffy didn't really struggle till facing Lucci or pacifistas, after the time skip he didn't struggle really till kaido

When I first was watching one piece, I was like “wait they aren’t gonna explore any of the other seas? Isn’t the grand line supposed to be the end goal?” Just for it to be significantly overhyped. Sure it does serve the purpose of being significantly more dangerous than the East blue, it was still underwhelming in my opinion.

The thing is, the anime had already defined the grand line as a human focused location from the start, chaotic sure, but definitely human. On the other hand, the dark continent is filled with non humans.

I doubt the dark continent is as big as the one piece world. Also the grand line is scarier because of the people in it, not so much the environment and we see it from the perspective of strong characters like emporers

For one, we know almost anything about the Dark Continent. Also, the Grand Line is indeed terrifying, we just are following the Straw Hats who have Nami as a navigator and powerhouses on their ship. We saw moments in the Grand Line where Sea Kings as big as islands existed and parts where the weather was so unstable that any other crew would view it as a terrible place. And finally, the grand line has been explored front and back while the Dark Continent hasnt. This is a stupid comparison. The Dark Continent may even house humans there. We really dont know shit about it. And we likely wont ever know cause Togashi isnt gonna finish it.

But the Dark Continent intrigues me to no end. The 5 threats, Chimera Ants being a B+ Level threat, nitro rice and metallion, Don Freecs and his incomplete book, Zigg Zoldyck, Netero and Beyond, etc... I really want to know whats going on...
