Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Explained | Tufts Medical Center

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic heart disease where there is increased thickness of the left ventricle, predominantly affecting the ventricular septum. There are two types of HCM—non-obstructive and obstructive.

Obstructive HCM occurs when the mitral valve makes an abnormal motion and contacts the thickened septum obstructing the flow of blood from the left ventricle out of the heart, as well as causing leakiness (or regurgitation) of blood back into the left atrium. This obstruction to blood flow and mitral regurgitation creates high pressures in the heart and is the main cause of limiting symptoms in patients with obstructive HCM. Symptoms may include: shortness of breath with exertion, chest pain, dizziness, or exertional fatigue.

Although there is no cure for HCM, there are several effective treatment options available to improve symptoms.

Tufts Medical Center, if you are wondering almost everyone is commenting "RIP Caleb", on October 1st 2015 a 13 year old boy named Caleb Logan Leblanc passed away from this. I think I have this.
My father died of heart issues and they thought it was because he ate bad and had angina or whatever but he never complained about that.
I'm only 17 he was 58
I really don't wanna die
My doctors have all been dismissive of all other things but never mentioned this.
I'll consult them about it hopefully I get treatment on surgery.
I don't wanna find the answer to the great unknown not yet at least maybe not ever.
Too young, anyway I just need to be fine.

Caleb Logan brataely has died I cant watch. This vid it makes me sad and know how he died

Wait. Ok so caleb could have gotten help then because he knew he was dizzy. At times he knew he was having some difficulty breathing and he was so tired and he stuttered. Caleb himself went through the symptoms alone. He knew something was up with his body he could have at least talked to his family about it. Then if the doctors couldn't find it they should let caleb go through a body x ray and listen to the heart and his breathing regularly. That's what I think. It would have been easier so he would know and take the right medicine for it. But then again he went through this pain alone unaware he was going to die. I feel so bad.
