In this video we discuss the Gaza tourniquet and demonstrate how to properly apply a tourniquet.

We would like to thank the Front Range Community Medical Group, as they are the ones who helped facilitate this stage and learning exercise.

FRCMG is a Colorado based medical education group focused on improving first aid education and making medical knowledge more accessible for everyone.

The tourniquets used on this stage were fabricated by DMDM - Distributed Medical Device Manufacturing, a group who provides aid for communities in crisis in the spirit of mutual aid.

I want to well as point out other humanitarian projects Glia is involved in:

Also, if you want to buy a tourniquet, you can do so here:

Interested in the STL files? They're here:

Speaking as someone who lost a friend to an improperly applied tourniquet (by me) - the screaming in pain and begging you to stop aspect of the application needs a lot more coverage in training. A fantastic NCO and a good friend would still be here if my training had mentioned that.

Really cool idea. Anything that gets more effective tourniquets in the hands of more people who need them is a good thing, and I love that 3D printers are making it possible for that to be democratized, decentralized, and accessible.

Absolutely fantastic video. Cool idea for a stage with an extra challenge, too!

Thank you for educating folk about this topic and for the shout out to Glia! (I was literally just listening to an interview the other day on my friend Margaret's podcast who had them on)

There are few things bleeker than the need to design a tourniquet for children.

Comments are exactly as spicy as I anticipated.
How about some props for a new low cost lifesaving device?

If you are looking for your own, get one with a metal windless. Plastic can become brittle for various reasons and it will break when you least want it to. That said, I am sad these 3D printed ones have to exists but I am glad they do.

There are some really awesome, kind, creative people in the world trying to help others in a horrible situation like the war in the Middle East.

My only complaint is that you didn't post a link to buy one of those legs - thanks and solidarity with Palestine!

It was great practice to run this twice during CQB, thanks for including it as a stage! Also cool to hangout after and talk about how to run it after there were inconsistencies

I had an old first aid instructor who expounded the triangular bandage, particularly for tourniquets.

I’m a little amazed at how first aid technology progresses.

Tourniquets have become more in use in first response training. When I started you had just a few indications where the use was allowed. The last one I went to, about a year or so ago, now had the tourniquet as state of the art for any strong bleed of the extremities. Incidentaly, what went away from the official school of thought I was trained in was that the second responder should cut off, using pressure, the majour blood transporting vessel of the extremity in question- apparently doctors are expected to do so, lesser trained personnel not. In the few cases I had to apply one in the field I found that helpful in swiftly stopping a bleed well. So, personal tipp of sorts, brush up on basic anatomy too, especialy where the majour vessels lie, as sometimes pressure is all one can apply.

That's so cool that it can be made with just 3d printing and stiching, great video.
