Ooh I like this idea! How I like to go about this is, when I find myself wanting to use the word amazing, I try to think of what made it amazing and use that to describe it instead. If it made an emotional impact I might say “moving” instead of amazing. If it was a meal I might say “flavorful”, “balanced”, “refreshing”. If it’s a story I might say “interesting” or “inspiring”. Etc. In my opinion, amazing is kind of a filler word that can be replaced by something more specific and meaningful.

This is a really practical tip, I'll try and implement it, thanks a lot

I do this naturally because I'm curious by nature and enjoy variety in my vocabulary, so it's been a habit forever. It's especially helpful when translating between languages. As for learning words for the sake of it, I think that sometimes given the right context, it can broaden my knowledge. For instance, petrichor was a word that I never thought about using intentionally, but since it rained today, I used it in conversation with someone close to me, and we then were wondering about the origin of the phenomenon.

It's a technique I learned 30 years ago from my ESL teacher. Used it ever since. It's great as a challenge when you need to write something to not use a word twice.

Thanks alot vinh, I recently realised I'm not good with my vocabulary and communications with people, I tried saying everything I want to say in the most straightforward way ever but I still found I was unable to communicate, so I saw your channel and I've been watching shorts so far, I love your work and have started attempting to apply it
I especially love your work on reading and what to do after reading something, thanks alot

I like to also specify a little more, how so? For example: I’m creating a script, and In the middle of it usually I put “this is amazing”, now I know that this part doesn’t add anything to the context, so I change to specify WHY this is amazing and change to another words, like “this is good for you because of X”, therefore my words has more meaning besides only the emotions

I will implement this technique immediately. "Super" is a overused word that I need to drop from my vocabulary and replace with better words.

I use this method while learning Japanese!
I realised I was using sugoi, which mean cool, to describe everything, so looked up other describing words that had good connotations and started using them instead!

Haha! That's funny, I literally did this the other night becoz I realized every comment I left had "amazing" in it!

I checked synonyms and then synonyms of synonyms to get away from word "amazing." Creative, clever, genius, inspiring, etc... Love this! 😂

Im drawn to bigger words and yet I’m constantly pulling myself back to a simpler language, like I’m trying to be more relatable.

Sometimes I am perceived as a snob in reality I am very shy naturally and grew up very poor.
My mother (who a teacher) made us speak properly, read books and dress well, as we are part indigenous and I suspect she always had the lingering fear in her mind of us as children being taken away. Even though by the early 90s it no longer state policy.
I try my best to overcome this, yet sometimes people still people perceive me as snob.

Right now I’m trying to find a balance between being articulate and precise and having practical skills to effectively communicate my thoughts and intentions in a more natural style.
