Lol yep homefree does it to when you have Geoff and Tim its a habit I love it to and its a great point who ever is their arranger has found a great formula so they fall back into it .

I've always liked listening to their cover of "Something just like this", for the very reasons you said. It flows well (in my opinion) and builds and falls perfectly. The bass and high tenor are used brilliantly. Just a thought 😁

The arrangement is due to being made during Lockdown, so each person had to be recorded and filmed with regard to social distancing, then added together later. Clever stuff.

Part of the reason it feels that the music loses that drive is because Geoff IS the drive in these songs. A lot of people won't notice a bass in any kind of song until it's gone. If they keep the drive going with Geoff still soloing I feel that it would be fine.

I hope you are feeling better, thank you for taking the time to do these wonderful reactions.

And DUDE he was in his higher register, he's not just a bass

Good call on the - who sings what and when. When you get to the level of these guys - Voctave, HF, PTX, VP - a poorly written arrangement really can make the difference. That is why I’m such a Peter Hollens fan as well - although he isn’t quite at the singing level of the others (one voice can only do so much) his arranging is right up there with the best of them.

This was good - you're right.
Now this is just MY opinion. I think we miss Geoff providing the driving beat in that one section. If they were going to let him do his thing maybe they should have held back the snaps too so it was "just lyrics" with no "additions"?

The reason they have him a part is because they are giving everyone a part,
First was Ellie
Then J None
Then Geoff
Then The Tenor

just so you know if you like how the songs sounds, its Geoff that "composes " and remixes every song, he looks up songs then breaks them down note by note. Changes every note what everyone is gonna sing then he RECORDS him self singing their parts, and sends it to them and asks them what they think and what they want to change.
Sorry for my English I'm a Swede 😂

I totally know what you are saying. It’s as if they don’t trust their own talent and resort to gimmicks especially with Geoff’s low range. It’s like adding pepper to a dish, a little is flavor but too much can ruin it all. I have seen that they can do good arrangements, but do they know the difference? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Now the Moana Medley that they did is wonderful. They used humor, theatricality, and Geoff’s low range in a perfect balance, and it really works.

BTW some distortion worked it’s way into the audio recording again. Not sure what’s up but though I would let you know.

Each was done in their homes than sent to be put together

I totally agree with you. The sound to me is distorted at any setting I've made through my headphones. Love Voiceplay but they can be a hit and miss at times. You should react to Home Free's version of Sold. <3 its so good!

while you may be right about Geoff, I think its more about the contrast, the way they follow him with the first tenor. its something the guy who arranges their music does a lot.

I agree and they have come a long way but still have a ways to go. I think my all time favorites that Voiceplay sings is Phantom Of the Opera.

I know what you are saying and have in some degree agree with you. Since all Three of these Groups were in a competition they had to distinguish themselves. Voiceplay ended up being like 4th or 3rd in there respective season, but have kept being themselves and have had more recognition now because they have been Surviving. I really like your Reaction. I RESPECT" your reaction and video and Want to let you know that I will have your back even if others may not. I love All three of these groups and their fans are very good positive people. Love to see what's next!

I don't agree that Geoff shouldn't be featured as much as he is, BUT I will agree that when he sings and the baseline disappears, that can be an odd drop off. Now what I wish they'd do (and they have done) is just double track him. Keep him doing the baseline and let him sing. I imagine people get really picky about that because it's not "true" a capella, but I say screw that. It's still all human voices. Like with Oogie Boogie, he's the lead and does the bass and that's perfection.
I do agree going from the lowest of low to the highest of high is strange, I would have switched Earl and J., BUT it's still way better than anything I could ever do, so I'll take it.
Weirdly, I think their ACA top 10's where they're live, are some of their better performances. To me, that's what they are the masters of out of the three big groups. Their mashups too, like Queen in 5 Minutes, Panic! In 4 Minutes, Boy Bands in 5 Minutes, Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes- all perfect. They have the best ears for mashups I think. Not that the other groups are bad, certainly not, but they deliver something really special with those. You should definitely check those out, especially considering you really liked their ACA Top 10 of 2019. They're all that excellent!
