FAIRFIELD HORSESHOE | A 10 Mile Circular Walk | Lake District National Park

Happy Easter everyone! Today's hike is a classic & an absolutely spectacular circular route from Rydal or Ambleside to Fairfield summit at 873m. It's a brilliant route to do on a day with great conditions as it provides stunning views all along the route and takes in a total of 8 Wainwrights. For that reason, I'd say it is a moderately difficult walk, not technically but in terms of the continuous nature of the walk to reach all 8 Wainwrights! As mentioned, the descent can be lengthy and can involve a tricky step down at a "bad step" at Low Brock Crags, which can be avoided if the alternative route is taken.

📍Starts at Rydal Pelter Bridge National Trust Car Park
⛰️Ticks off 8 Wainwrights - Nab Scar, Low Pike, High Pike, Heron Pike, Hart Crag, Great Rigg, Fairfield, and Dove Crag

I hiked Fairfield a few times when I was a house-officer in UK, more than 20 years ago. I have since hiked many places in the world, yet I still think Lake District as the best. Thank you for the upload.

A great video. This is the Lakeland classic and there are many videos that concentrate on the peaks but especially in the early part of the video you captured some of the stunning views that most videos miss so thank you for sharing.

Love the horseshoe. Loughrigg Avenue for parking in Ambleside, never failed to get a space there.

Thank you for that wonderful video. What a day that was. A few years since I've done that and now at an age where it's beyond me so it was terrific to experience it vicariously with you. Mind, I'll never get used to seeing heights of fells given in metres - just showing my age.

It was summer I did it with a fellow YouTuber and friend, with his wife and we had very different weather unfortunately, the promised sun never materialised but the mist and wind, which was not forecasted prevailed most of the day. Nice to see those glorious views that we missed out on and we also parked at Pelter Bridge too. Man you were so lucky to get winter weather like that and as you say 'perfect' indeed. Despite the sun and blue skies it did look dam chilly as well, so defo a day to keep on the move. Great to see you retained the amazing views but it is a long walk back to the car after you finish that last fell, cheers Alan

Spectacular day and walk up Christine. You couldn't ask for a clearer one for the views. I imagine you did warm up after - the inclines take care of that. Mind you you had kind of plateaued by then. I imagine you will get to Helvellyn. Not one you want to do on a bad day. Well, good going. I bet you got back down buzzing. All the best. Mark
