Milwaukie becomes second-largest Oregon city to pass natural gas ban resolutions

Against the opposition of some powerful interest groups, the city council voted to require that new homes be built all-electric. The city council members who voted in favor say it only makes sense: the state of Oregon will be moving away from natural gas in the near future anyway.

When we had freezing temps 2 years ago in Portland and lost power for over a week, the natural gas was the only thing that worked and allowed us to keep warm and cook. You are putting more and more load on the electrical grid, without actually beefing up the electrical grid with new energy generation. Limiting your options to only 1 really puts all of your eggs in one basket. Better hope that basket holds, without fail.

Haha, heat pumps lose efficiency at 40 degrees and will use more energy the colder it gets. In other words, in January with the east winds that darn pump will be running all day to keep you a comfortable 60 degrees in your home. What a bunch of dummies.

I don’t understand why we can’t just let people choose what they want. There are lots of reasons someone may choose natural gas for heating Their home or using a gas stove. If people don’t want to they don’t have to but why Force it the other way? Yet another reason new builds are not as good as older character homes only the wealthiest can Afford.
