I was raised English, but the blandest thing I've ever eaten, was mac and cheese. It seems like something you would serve in prison to inmates who are past the stage of solitary confinement. It's an actual punishment in and by itself.

And yes, alot of British food is customs left from WW2, when people had to make due. That's why there's bread and butter with every meal.

As bad as the Brits are at food, the best loaded bake potato I have ever eaten was in Peabels, Scotland. A baked potato with a ton of cheese, sour cream, hagis, and bacon bits. Hands down the best loaded baked potato I have ever had. I still to this day prefer hagis over corned beef when it comes to hash…. Give me hagis over almost all else when it comes to breakfast hash.
