BJD hobby on a budget: Transforming a 60cm doll from Aliexpress

This is the boy that introduced me to the world of budget ball jointed styled dolls. I've been a resin collector for over a decade, and it was a pleasant surprise to know there were budget friendly options out there for those who can't or don't want to spend hundred of dollars on dolls and just want to enjoy the hobby.

I have this boy! I got him in february of 202O with pre rooted, long white hair and a face up for 17.00 US. The factory paint is pretty ugly tbh so I've been planning on repainting him. Watching you transform yours was amazing! Now I'm re energized to work on him. I do agree, his body proportions are uhm...odd. I hope if they continue to make male dolls in this size they think about resculpting the body. I had seen one at this size with more masculine hands but he's no longer available. Thanks for sharing your art, he looks so handsome!

Very nice but these aren’t considered BJDs. As you said they’re hinged jointed. Hinge jointed dolls..HJDs? Lol.

"unlike his resin counterpart" so... I'm confused. Are these aliexpress cheap dollies knock offs or are they actual original sculpts that are printed in both regular doll resin or also available as a vinyl version?
