We got our hands on the brand new Arturia MiniLab 3 MIDI controller. Perfectly sized, it's packed with free software from Arturia, Ableton, Native Instruments, UVI and subscriptions to Loopcloud and Melodics.

We use MIDI controllers so much in the studio these days that they are the central focus. In fact, they've been in use so long that some people don't even know what MIDI stands for*, or that synth legend Dave Smith created it!

Since the world of emulations and recreations started becoming useable in music production, Arturia has been creating MIDI controllers that are perfectly sized, well-thought-out in the features and look great. We introduce to you the MiniLab 3.

It looks like it belongs in a modern art museum.

I heard they key feel is really good on these. I'm almost ready to buy one now, only I feel I will be paying for features I'll never use. Virtual Lab is something I'm not interested in and couldn't use even if I was. And it being one of the big selling points makes me think the value isn't there for me.
Are there other similar sized KB's with as good key feel? Solely focused on MIDI?

Thanks for the video...I got mine a month back. My perception - Keys are harder...found difficult to play for fast tempo melodies. Do not know if I need to yet to gel well with the minilab 3 keys...am used to Casio and Yamaha MIDI enabled CTK and PSR respectively keyboard keys...
Is it so that Arturia 49 keys and 61 keys have similar keys?
Won't be very excited to go for them in that case. Well. Still trying to explore.
I have Ableton Intro 10 license, that's packed with more functionalities than the Live Lite version being offered by Arturia with minilab3...I feel they should give an option of whether to have a DAW with the keyboard or not and a price difference for that too. I mean a reduction if someone (like me) chooses to not have a DAW offering.
Thanks again.

Hi Tim, thanks for the review! Is this keyboard good to use with Cubase? Would it be just plug and play? Or would need some configuration? Thanks!

Thanks for the walkthrough. I'm a total novice with midi controllers but I've used Arturia's AudioFuse Studio interface since it came out, only for analogue recordings though. Now I'm interested in exploring the more electronic stuff and I got me the MiniLab3 + MiniFuse 4 interface, and I'm planning to use these with mu iPad Pro. The whole setup seems much easier if used with a computer, with that Analog Lab bundle, but the iOS software is a true jungle. Would you have any tips on the most versatile iOS apps that can "a little bit of everything" like synths, piano.. Thanks very much!
