sorry for being rude, but in this particular instance, saying that the derivative of tangent is secant squared was a poor choice, as then you had to deal with this pesky secant squared of inverse tangent. bleh! 🥴there is an alternative formula for the derivative of the tangent which in this case begs to be used:
(d/dθ) tan(θ) = 1 + tan(θ)². then you would have:
(d/dx) tan(θ) = x
(1 + tan(θ)²) * dθ/dx = 1 <<<< 😍
(1 + x²) * dθ/dx = 1
dθ/dx = 1 / (1 + x²)

Can you explain the reverse? Like how do we get the integral of 1/(x^2+1)?

Why bro making it so complicated? Just set tany = x and use a triangle to see that opposite over adjacent is X/1. Then use the Pythagorean theorem and solve for the Adjacent side. Take the derivative which is sec2 and use 1/cos instead. Then use the side lengths found from the triangle to see that 1/ cos is 1/A/H and substitute so 1/(1+x)^2

1/sec^2ø =1/tan^2ø+1....then tanø=x....so need for extra step ig
