You can't really make a big difference between Russian and Ukrainian literature. It goes hand in hand. Or is even the same, like in the case of Gogol - a guy from the Ukraine, that wrote in Russian.

Looking down on culture is hugely foolish. As a Spaniard, even I have slightly studied Dostoyevski at school since it belongs to the Realist literary movement, just like Leopoldo Alas Clarín. It reflects european historical and economical context during the 19th century with significant cultural value. Hatred leads to impulsive, mistaken and foolish decisions. Burning literature or getting rid of it is always foolish, ignorant, despising culture and, in a certain way, knowledge. Shame on them.

Wake up Ukraines...the literature cannot be erased! Russians have a beautiful nation with wonderful culture. This is always alive! Remember

I will simply put Bulgakov's immortal words here:
Manuscripts don't burn
Oh, and he was born in Kiev, but is a Russian writer.

Understandable that so many want to forget the Russian literature after the invasion, even the literature they once loved.
I imagine the Czechs and Polish took a similar dislike to German culture and literature at the start of World War II. The loss of love for culture and literature is another reason we must curse this, and all other, wars of aggression.
With solidarity from the other side of the world (Tasmania, Australia).

Yep. Bonfire makes sense. Let's blame Pushkin and Dostoyevski for what's happening...
No matter how much you dislike the fact, your culture and history are closely intertwined with that of Russia, so with such mindset, you are destroying part of your own roots.
One can only hope that part of the respondents is tailoring their answers to what they are 'expected' to say these days and another part will revise their stance at some point after the war is over and their minds are no longer clouded with (understandable) hatred that prevents them from drawing the line where it belongs. There is a good reason for the idiom 'Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater'.

I think these people are not intelligent at all. The whole world says Russia has had the most wonderful writers!!! Maybe they have never pocket up a book!!!

A "cultural' war will often be a part of a conflict.
But how can you blame Russian writers, not even Soviet ones, for what happens today? I think one must accept that the past and its cultural signature cannot be changed. But of course you can decide yourself if you wish to deal with it, study it, have it at home.

Кто на вас напалы? Достоевский? Лермонтов? Пушкин? Сами-то понимаете, что это маразм?

The literary disposal move expressed among Ukrainians seems behaviorally rash and immature. Nonetheless it would be understandable and even commendable if it were the pseudo literature produced during the 20th century Soviet hegemony, post 1917, although it isn’t the case, but repudiation of a moral literature representative of the period of the Romanovs and slavic struggles. What is next for Ukrainians?—Gradual cultural assimilation

Youth these days. "Die your hair and make the world mediocre. Just so you can feel special for doing nothing, raising your ego to feel superior."
Bergamabacht
It makes sense why they feel this way. Ukraine is getting their ass kicked in this war lol.

i just got to know a little info of Russian literature from “fiction beast” and its awesome

Great video!
The "indoors" part of the video, and the sound at 1:39 explains perfectly why the Ukranians have a bad feelings about the Russian books.
It's a good idea to do the street-interviews, it's important that the world hears the opinions of the Ukranians.

Nice to see another video from you ❤ Were you underground because of an air raid warning? It's so difficult for a lot of people in the rest of the world to even begin to understand that this is what life is like for you 😥
Слава Україні 💙🇺🇦💛

Hope you are safe and well Polina. And I hope you have something of a Christmas.
Slava Ukraine!

She needs help! Why Canada? It's on the other side of the North Pole.

As an interviewer you failed. Why didn't you ask older people? Just asking a couple of young people is not representative at all.
Hating on world literature is really low and deprives you of your own history. A real shame. Thumbs down on this video.

I know it is not my place to say this, but burning books is a sin, even in a confrontational situation such as this one
angelodevries
The faint sound of an air raid siren while asking the people about the culture of their attackers was a bit chilling. It's difficult to comprehend the stress these people endure.
We need to ramp up production of the equipment Ukrainians need to free them from their oppressor.
