James Valentine is an inspiration as a guitar player! Anybody else love his work?

It's not that we don't like James Valentine.
We don't like Maroon 5.
It's not that Maroon 5 doesn't have a good guitar player.
They are holding a good guitar player hostage.

I’ve always thought that Valentine is a criminally underrated guitarist (considering the band is now pretty much “Adam Levine and some other dudes I guess”), his playing always fits M5’s music and he definitely has a lot of really solid parts on the first few albums (also one thing I’ve always found amusing is that my guitar teacher at college looks a lot like James, same hair, beard and probably about the same height)

"Songs About Jane" is a very good guitar record, and a great album overall IMO.

I think the guitar work on This Love is so darn good. The chord progression and the riff in the verse is unusually genius.

When maroon 5 still had that guitar driven sound, it was solid and good, I do agree Valentine is a good underrated guitarist. He could still pull off pop, but on more guitar driven songs or approaches, simple yet solid.

Not only is James amazing, but so is the rest of the band, very underrated musicians. Go and watch some of thier concerts, they add solos and change up the songs to sound like an actual band.

Shiver makes me shiver. All musicians in Maroon 5 are actually good musicians. The only shitty part is that yes, they have this latest singles that sound generic, but if you kinda look back in the day, you can clearly see the talent. Adam Levine included, wether I like him or not.

I'm a huge fan for them and I see that they have two main big problems
First, Adam Levine is mostly taking all the lights and that left us with a lot of underrated players in the band
Second the band started to take this generic pop thing I guess from their fifth or fourth album
I actually have seen them live 3 months ago in the pyramids concert, they did a lot of guitar solos that wasn't in the studio record, I guess everybody knows Adam knows that he's a good guitarist, also James did a great guitar solos for Sunday morning and Animals, I just think they need to be a band more than this coz I feel like it's 1 guy band

Mike, you NEEED to hear/cover Take What You Want. It’s a demo from Songs About Jane. Arguably THE best guitar intro I have ever heard. Bluesy, harmonics, phrasing, it’s perfection
