First rib mobilisation | Treating neck pain

This technique is an absolute gem for complementing work to the scalenes and improving overall neck function.

This first rib mobilisation technique helps alleviate conditions like non-specific thoracic outlet or peripheral nerve entrapments, which are common in postural fatigue clients or even our throwing athletes.

Remember to assess the breath: so many clients breathe from the upper chest and not from our diaphragm muscle. Take a few moments to let the client breathe in and out so you can hone in on the hot spots.

In our masterclass on peripheral nerve entrapments, we explore the bigger picture of treating this often missed condition that co-exist in many shoulder and neck dysfunctions. This is especially true of the frozen shoulder condition, which makes assessments and treatments like this an integral part of the Phase 1 FS condition.

Note: this technique should not be painful at all, so be sure to take the time to let the client breathe while you do your palpation assessment.
