In this video, I will show you how you can transfer your stocks from one broker to another. In this example, I will show you how I transferred my stocks from Revolut to Interactive Brokers.

This sounds like an easy and straightforward undertaking, you simply sell your stocks on one broker and then repurchase them at the new broker right away. Well, actually that's not a very good strategy as you will incur capital gains taxes on any profits you made so you will be left with less money after repurchasing those same stocks.

In the US they have the ACATS system which lets you easily transfer your entire portfolio from one broker to another for a little fee but you will keep all your positions without having to sell them.

In Europe, unfortunately, not all brokers allow such transfers. Revolut for example at the moment sadly does not let you transfer your stock portfolio to another broker. So the only way is to actually sell all your positions. This is what I did and it wasn't financially a good idea as you will see in the video.

The problem was that Interactive Brokers has a 14 day lock-up period for dollar transfer from outside the US, that's why I was not able to repurchase my same stocks right away and in the meantime they went up significantly in price, effectively leaving me at a loss.

Or, even better, sell your USD stocks on Revolut, then exchange your USD to EUR within Revolut, as they offer great exchange rates, then send EUR to Interactive Brokers which will arrive in a matter of minutes and you will then simply convert them back to USD on Interactive Brokers which offers one of the best exchange rates out there. Then you will be able to right away buy back into your position without any market risk.

Is not true. You can transfer positions from Revolut to IBKR. From IBKR you can choose "DriveWealth" option in "Transfer positions"

The interest rates for holding stocks with Revolut is currently set to 0.12% per annum.

Let's assume you have a stock portfolio of $100, 000. That means you are paying EUR 10 per month or EUR 120 per year. Over 20 years, you are paying EUR 2, 400. Assuming your Portfolio size stays the same just as an example. Therefore it doesn't make sense to sell, pay taxes and risk the volatility which in your case you had 20% cover up on assets (EUR20, 000). You are losing an insane amount of value like that. You are better off sticking with Revolut and wait for them to offer the transferring services over the next decade. The capital appreciation gains over a decade will more than shadow the fee's you will have to pay for the short to medium term. Just my two cents.

Hi Kai and thanks for the awesome video!
i've watched most of your videos these days and i came up with 2 questions as a young inventsor
1)are these apps ( Revolut etc) reliable enough for big ammounts? I mean would you prefer purchase stocks worth of 100.000 euros through them or through a well known bank?
2) When yu purchase the stock through revolut do you really own the stock? When i was asking myself the same thing for cryptos i found out that Revolout buys the crypto for you but you dont really own them. In comparison with other apps like binance where you own the cryptos and therefore you can move them to a digital wallet
thanks in advance

Very interesting experience. However my question is why have you decided to take your stocks out of Revolut? What was the issue with Revolut?

Hi, my Leveraged Salesforce share was up over 400 euros, and delisted from my broker IG. They have stated that I can transfer to another broker, any advice? Can I sell my stocks, they said I can't sell them through my current broker.

Hi Kai. I'm trying to get my stock out of Revolut. I am currently 80% down at the moment. Can I still transfer my stock without losing anything? I don-t want to sell them because that means losing the money, I just want to transfer them. Will your method work?
thanks in advance

Hey Kai, so I made my friend purchase stocks for me on his Revolut account since I couldn’t the app in my country (Ghana) He was in Spain. I have currently moved to the US. Will it be possible to have the stocks transferred to me if I open my own Revolut account, or will it be possible to have it transferred to an IBKR if I am to open an account . I am a green card holder.

5:20 - that's not a complete truth, same about dollar cost averaging, in such case selling all you have still the same chance, let's say, to buy then dip and earn some. It doesn't decrease the risk, you still can sell stocks separately, and then have larger growth in between.
