QooCam 3 Review: Finally a Competitor for Insta360?

I've been using the QooCam 3 for the past few weeks to see what this next gen 360 camera can do. At just $349 the QooCam 3 looks like a great option considering the hardware, but can it compete with more expensive options?

The QooCam 3 features larger sensors than other consumer 360 cameras as well as a low aperture of f/1.6. This should allow the camera to pikc up more light than other 360 cameras, something they have traditionally struggled with.

Kandao has also added new stabilization tech, a waterproof design, 4 microphones and a new suite of software.

In this review I test both the hardware and importantly, the software to see if the QooCam 3 can be used to create the kind of unique shots 360 cameras have become know for, and if the hardware advantages actually make any difference to the end result.

Not sure if you noticed during editing but there's a blinking line at the top of the reframed videos.

A really good review. But Dng8 will record only in 16MP, also AEB. Only normal photo and interval can shoot in 62MP. And the comparison that I have made under daylight, 62MP wins with more details. But I need to check again with final firmware

Great look at the camera, excited to see you compare the X3. Does anyone really use all the modes/gimmick shots in apps, I just want to see how much detail is in the video/photo straight out of cameras

I think it is the phones energy saving settings that kills the transfer, preventing the app from getting killed in sleep in the phone settings should solve it? 🤔

Thanks for another good 360 review. 👌👍 I own the 8K and had it fixed with new battery and lenses and it works great. I also have the insta360 one Rs with 360 module, but it's not happy with the reframed result. 🤔 I've been considering the X3 for at while now but after seeing som reviews I ordered this Qoocam 3 instead, it's looks to be better in many cases, so I'm looking forward to your comparison with the X3. 😉

Could you recommend a camera to record kids soccer games? I stand on the halfway line with my phone and 2 GoPro’s attached to each goal but a 360 (180) camera would save me missing anything. I’ve had a couple of older 360 cameras and I’m sure the quality wasn’t good enough.

Thanks for the review! For me, QooCam 3 is currently the best consumer camera for panoramic photography! Amazing quality if you shoot in DNG! I am completely satisfied with the price-quality ratio of photography. Video doesn't matter to me.

Why didn't you mention the 10 second high pitched noise that happens every 5 minutes in a recording? Or the app you have to download to edit the videos but isn't approved by Google or Apple so you have to bypass warnings on your phone and computer to use it?

I did like that you mentioned that the app doesn't have audio, as that is another huge downside to using this camera.

Listing "Battery life not great" as a Con, but then not actually talking about what the battery life is during the video, was a pretty large fail, as that is very vital information....

How QooCam goes from 8k in one camera back to 5.7k is beyond me. 5.7k is trash and a money grab. Forget the fact that the video samples you provided (not your fault) but show distortion and seam lines... they still limit the resolution. So we still get 1080 video after editing. No thanks. NEXT!

This camera doesn't bring anything interesting at all. I already have a Z1 and an RS 1 inch and don't see the need to buy this one. I wonder how long it will take for similar cameras to be released? I'm waiting for some kind of revolution, maybe a 4/3″ sensor?
