I've read that angels were created as said in Gen. 1:1. Then rebelled in Gen. 1:2. Then cast down in Gen. 1:3 when God said let there be Light, separated darkness from light. The separation of darkness from light is God casting down those who rebelled against from those who didn't.

Hi Jimmy, I’d like to add to your great answer and elaborate on this nature of Angels since it is what helped me understand these questions. I always refer to exorcists from the RCC or the works of St. Thomas Aquinas. Here is some information about angels and demons that have helped me and may help your listeners to understand the topic of discussion.

One important aspect of Angels (both fallen and those that have received the beautification) are that they are of perfect infused knowledge. In other words, they were created with all of the knowledge they have other than the observable knowledge of a specific person/people if not given by God. By this attribute, their will of fixed upon their initial choice to either accept or reject their tasks. This is St. Aquinas speaks about in what he called “The first three instances”. Once an angel has accepted their task, they no longer have it in their will to change their path. This is why, when exorcists have pressed the devil and/or the fallen, they have admitted to making a “faulty choice” but still swear that they would not change their path, if given the chance to do so. Since they are of perfect intellect, they also cannot repent.

The second aspect that helped me understand angels is that they are purely intellectual and non-corporal, therefore, they are not limited by space. All they need to do is focus their intellects on the location they want to act in and they will if allowed by God. They can stretch over the solar system if they want but God must allow it. It’s also important to keep in mind that since they don’t have a body, they don’t physically move or work on things but rather work out of the laws of nature. This is how they can cause a room to be extremely cold or hot in an instant. They don’t have to wait for the air molecules to heat up or cool down according to their atomic properties. This is a nature bestowed upon them God and one they still retain.

I also hear people say that Angel or the fallen aren’t bound by time. This only applies to how fast they can act on things as explained. They can be in one location in one instance then be in another by simply shifting their wills. However, they cannot move forward in time or reward. This why they are called preternatural and not supernatural since only the Triune God is Supernatural.

I hope this helps some listeners. We often try to “humanize” preternatural beings and come up with a skewed view of them. Understanding their nature can help with many misconceptions.

I think God revealed to the Angels He was going to incarnate with His creation. Lucifer knowing he was the greatest of God's created creatures (to that pont) probably thought he was a shoe-in for the job. When God further revealed it was not Lucifer but a human; then I think Lucifer took it personally. Other Angels who realized they would no be picked either; especially outdone by a human; also fell in with Lucifer and rebelled.

Within all creation as such, would this say anything to the causes and origins of freewill, given angels exercised it prior to and apart from mankind? However we have freewill, it wouldn’t seem to be, in that case, the stand alone sole definitive feature of “the image of God”, and thus not necessarily exclusive to humans.

I thought judgement is final so fallen angels are in hell now and then lake of fire for eternity.. surely there is no going in and out once judgment is made? I also heard that fallen angels and heavenly angels and saints are permanently in heaven or hell but bilocate to earth as there judgement is fixed? Is it possible that we see the fall of satan in the garden? Simultaneously with the fall of mankind and the curses that come with his tempting of Eve?
There does seem to be some continuity as you mentioned the fall of the sons of God desiring wives. Where is in Satan temps Adams wife.(I recognize it’s not the same) Similarity in the sense that they came after the Woman.
