Tatting - A One-Shuttle Medallion

I often get requests for patterns "from start-to-finish". So here is a new one.
At 6:26, I show a trick for hiding one of the ends into a ring.

(Oh, and don't forget to adjust the settings to see the video in HD!)

I thought it would be a nice little challenge to write up the pattern for this medallion which features on the fabric of a bag I received as a gift.

You can find the written pattern on my blog

Click on the medallion image on the blog page and it will take you to the pattern.

Please print it and follow along!

Thank you so much for posting this step by step! I am finally advancing from rings and chains to multiple rows, so this will be a good little project to start developing a new skill.

I find out of all lace making techniques I considered learning first, this is the most approachable and portable. Sometimes I can't carry around a knitting project but I do not want to have idle hands.

Finally I understand mock picots, split rings and nifty way to hide your end threads.
Thank you so much for posting this instructional pattern. You get a subscriber and a cyber hug!

You are very gifted and also a wonderful teacher. Thank you so much for inspiring me to get back to tatting and keep myself busy especially during the lockdown period. Tatting is indeed a stress reliever. Keep posting videos.

Decided to pick tatting back up after decades of a hiatus. I originally learned from books, and my goodness how much more fun it is with videos like yours! I had to watch most of the beginner videos too—no, tatting is not quite like riding a bike. My hands did retain a lot of muscle memory though—I know I must’ve spent hours and hours figuring out how to transfer the knot the first time years ago lol.

Anyway, I subscribed to your channel but have to say I really really love tatting a full project alongside you! I don’t think I was ever as quick and smooth as you are, likely not even a quarter as good. It’s lovely to watch and inspiring. Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us all and share your techniques! Truly invaluable!! <3

I have been "KonMari-ing" my hobbies but have decided tatting 'sparks joy' for me so I'm keeping it .... plus it is a hobby that does not take up a mountain of space. Your new video has made me confirm I made the right decision. I'm going to save your video for a 'must do' later! You are so relaxing to watch and make me believe I can do this with your excellent instruction. THANK YOU!

Amazing.
There isn't another word to describe you or your skills. I love your tutorial. They are fantastic. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us newbies, especially the magic loop & mock picot.
Ive been looking for a hobby that keeps my hands busy. Tatting is perfect I really love the rhythm with the shuttle. Ive tried needle tatting to see if it suits me but I prefer the shuttle.
I just thank the gods I found you. I couldnt ask for a better teacher.

I love your videos. Another knowledgable tatter who can explain well enough to follow. I am a blind tatter so the more clear explanation the better. Must order more real tatting thread the crochet thread just isn't doing it.

This is the trickiest motif I've attempted so far and it is, so far, going pretty well, all thanks to your guidance! Leaving bare thread is rather stressful in my opinion and part of me would rather deal with endless RW and chains to connect the rings, but I have to admit I love how delicate it looks! Practice makes perfect, so I'm sure I'll be more used to this once I've actually finished this medallion (and perhaps try making another?). Thank you for posting a video of making the pattern from start to finish, it is quite helpful!
