Process of Getting Braces

Getting braces is one of the most exciting moments in your life! It marks the beginning of a new journey you are about to embark - a journey to a better smile! The process of getting braces is a lengthy process which includes prepping /cleaning the surfaces of your teeth, placing on the braces, and inserting the wire and ligature tie at the end. In our orthodontic office, we use an indirect bonding technique to place on braces. The procedure is pain free and fast! 😄

My husband is getting braces in literally the next 20 minutes. I had them in middle school to high school. I’m just excited for him so I decided to come watch.

I got braces (lower jaw only), when I was 17... I'm 40 today. I had it for one year. It wasnt so bad, and I liked the fact that I got to choose the colors. It felt much easier that way. My teeth are great. 🙂👌🏻

i just got braces, this is my full experience

got my braces 3 days ago, ( the metal ones )when they put on the braces it will not hurt at all. mine took an hour. after everything's done, your mouth will feel extremely weird. there won't be any pain once u leave the dentist but a couple hours later, the pain will kick in 😩. the brackets will be pushing against ur lips just for a few days, please use wax if any of them are irritating, wax saved my life :)
for me, it was my back teeth that hurt the most so stock up on soft food! When there was pain i just ate ice cream and took some panadol which did help. In my experience, they did hurt but only for 2 days.
I ate pasta on the second day and LOTS of the food got stuck between ur brackets and wires. please buy the piksters ( i think what they are called ) they do get the food under ur wires. After 2 weeks or so, I got extremely used to them! Take care of ur braces

1 month in: not bad at all, don't worry. the food doesn't get stuck a lot anymore

Tightening update/ 8 months : I got them tightened 3 days ago and they still hurt so much 😭 just eat cold stuff and it’ll be fine

Oh my god yall nd if u get rubber bands u GONNA BE Lemme tell u when I say the pain is so bad especially in the night ur teeth will be aching. But it only lasts 1-2 days and then you can’t feel the rubber band pain no more

U get extremely used to braces now, it’s not a hassle anymore.
Braces literally don’t hurt one bit when getting them on. They only hurt after getting them or tightening, it feels like your teeth is just aching. After a few days it’s completely normal again

I just got my braces today, and honestly it didn’t hurt A BIT! it’s a little u comfortable but you’ll get used to it. if it’s poking u a bit put some wax, it’s a life saver. You have nothing to worry about it wont hurt applying braces, there’s a little sourness after but take some panadol or whatever medicine and it’s fine!:)

Things I learned/mistakes I made during my braces journey

1. brushing and flossing - brushing and flossing are very important when wearing braces. I did not take this seriously at the time, and I began to find that I had several cavities as a result of my own fault during my braces journey:)
2. Apply dental wax - Ulser + random cuts from the bracket might be painful at times, so apply dental wax and take pain relievers if necessary.
3. Drink water before going to bed - I used to get cuts from the bracket and the wire, and occasionally my inner lips just got stuck to the wire due to dryness, so I started drinking water before going to bed and it helped.
4. Follow your dentist - they always know if you're lying to them hahaah they don't even have to ask they will know whether you brush floss properly or wore the rubber band it's for your own good so follow your dentist
5. Change the way you eat/bite/chew - I learned to cut my food into smaller pieces and chew carefully to avoid the bracket popping out sometimes I even chew food with one side of the mouth especially when the dentist apply new bracket, it might easily pop out when they first applied it so I usually eat soft food for 2 days to avoid anything happen to the new bracket hehe but after that you are good to go just extra be careful when you eat chips and cookies tho especially chip, it doesn't look like much threat but I broke my bracket 2 times eating potato chips 😅. The second reason for me to chew slowly and cut my food is because I want to avoid from getting my food stuck too deep to the bracket because it can be tough to see and brush.
6. If your brackets come out, please see your dentist right away since if you delay your monthly visit, some of the teeth will shift back so they will need to do the moving process for that teeth again and again so it will take a longer time for the braces to come out. And if the same bracket keep popping out you might try to apply less pressure on that side, or try to chew more slowly if the same bracket won't stop popping out even when you don't eat nothing then it's time to visit your dentist and tell them. Back then I have this case where the same bracket pop out 3 month straight and the dentist mad at me because they think I'm not careful enough keep telling me to eat soft food, but the things is that bracket even pop out just after I step my foot outside the dentist office don't even drink or eat anything and it pop out on its own by that time I realize something is wrong and I'm too afraid to go back to the dentist because they will scold me. Fast forward I went for my monthly checkup and indeed the dentist look at it and was mad at me and after she applied the bracket back when she tried to put the rubber bands the bracket pop out Infront of her lol she never apologize tho and she said must be faulty bracket so for 3 month straight they mad at me for something I didn't do so please tell your dentist when this type of things happen I learned from my mistakes sometimes you need to speak up
7. If you feel discomfort or pain tell your dentist most probably they can help. I once need to use this white thingy to avoid from my lower and upper teeth to meet because they need to move it and for the first try I don't feel comfortable at all so I told my doctor back then so she carve the white thingy until I feel a bit comfortable so talk to your dentist they will try to help you in any ways.
8. Avoid using toothpaste that causes this unpleasant sensation. I tried a harsh whitening toothpaste once and had sensitive teeth for three days. It's aching and uncomfortable, and I believe toothpaste is to blame for because once I stop, everything returns to normal, so please don't use strange things on your teeth while wearing braces, and please avoid tapping your teeth because it will result in the same things lol, tried it once and will never do it again because the pain and aching irritate the hell out of me, and I can even feel the sensitive sensation on my teeth when I breathe through my mouth or drink water, so please don't do that to yourself.
9.in my experience, braces can be annoying. Most of the time, I think it's manageable and okay, but I can't deny that it occasionally causes mood swings for me hahaha but since I choose to wear it, I bare all of that. Just be happy and try to enjoy the process, soon your teeth will become better :). Have a wonderful day take care and sending hugs
10. Choose rubber bands/ power chains colours correctly. Its cool feel free to choose any colour you like but if you are someone who don't like to much attention from other people or self conscious etc based on my experience the pretty and "safe colours" will be blue, grey, turquoise, pink, purple, soft blue. The white / transparent colour is okay too I wore it few times but if you lived in Asia countries whereby we eat dishes with turmeric, curry, etc they will for sure stained the rubber bands faster for real. And please don't be surprise when 2 3 weeks from changing to the new rubber bands it started to change to other colours since the food you consume sometimes will be able to change the colours or stained it. For example I once wore soft blue power chain and after drinking lemonade the band colour changes to bit purple ish😆😅. For me the flop colour will be black, red, yellow, green. The black one may look beautiful when you stand close to that person but when they walking and smiling from a far it looks like they have rotten tooth for some reason😅😅😅. But if you want to experience and have fun with the colours go on if you slay you slay anyways ahahahaha. But remember, lemon, turmeric, chili powder, cheese powder and curry( other curry than Japanese curry) will stained the rubber band/ power chain ( depend on the colouring.sometimes it's just a little bit, sometimes you can clearly see the colour changes)

I see a lot of comments saying “who watching this before getting braces” so here’s some tips from somebody who has had them for 2 years!
1. PUT CHAPSTICK ON BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT!
2. When their putting braces on or wire on it doesn’t hurt! It kinda feels tight that’s all (also when they put ur color on)!
3. Get some wax it prevents cuts and soars, you can get some at cvs and your orthodontist might give you some!
4. Get a waterpik or the plackers (floss that is easier to use) from cvs so you don’t have the struggle to put string floss threw the wire!
5. Eat some soft foods right as you get them, but you will probably get tired of the rules and it’s ok to have some stuff against the rules of brace once and a while!
6. Mine didn’t hurt for almost the entire day but when it did I got a bad headache and my jaw felt weird/tight kinda, so get some medicine!
7. I don’t know if anybody else has this, when it gets tightened/put on but I will accidentally gride my front teeth!
And the most important thing! Don’t be nervous!

Here are some videos you can watch to decide colors and other stuff:
(If you have questions feel free to ask)

I got braces on my top teeth and a dental bridge for my underbite! if you are ever nervous about getting braces let me tell you, it’s absolutely painless! your mouth will be very dry, but its worth it! Getting the dental bridge on and all the other stuff i had to do before getting braces were far more painful than actually getting braces! so you dont have to worry :)

To anyone that'd gonna get braces at first it hurts a bit and it's very hard to eat because your teeth are sensitive but after a few weeks it goes back to a normal state of which your teeth don't hurt
