Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings wrote this and many other Guess Who songs on the piano in the living room of Cummings' mother's house on Bannerman Avenue in Winnipeg. They had many Saturday songwriting sessions there, and Bachman (a guitarist) came in with the first draft of the song, calling it These Arms. Cummings (a pianist) was impressed by Bachman's piano chords, but thought that "these eyes" should come first, followed by "these arms", and also added the middle part of the verses.

Great band from Canada. This song really takes me back to when it was released in 1969. It most definitely evokes a “vibe”. Keep ‘em coming. ❤️

Awww, Burton Cummings has such a beautiful voice. Was out in 69 love it then still do. This. American Women, Stand Tall are my favorites. He's from Canada. Still performing in 2022.

Burton Cummings was around 21-22 years old when he recorded this. You don't hear that many artists these days at that age with a voice like that.

I always think of my brother when I hear Burton Cummings sing. My brother introduced me to his music. Burton was also in a movie called "Melanie" with Paul Sorvino, Glynnis O'Connor and Don Johnson (1982). Burton has a song called "Something Old, Something New" that I just love. Hearing it always makes me miss my brother, yet makes me smile because he loved Burton so much. "Saved My Soul" is another song to try too.
Something Old, Something New and Saved My Soul are Classics! Love you and miss you, Brother. ❤💋🙏✌

Fun Fact...A couple of the members oft his band went on to form Bachman Turner Overdrive.. The singer, Burton Cummings, went on to a solo career. I think Brad is correct! Good stuff folks!

Next song to check out by this band..."Undun." You won't regret a second of it. Great song. The Guess Who also did "American Woman, " which, if by some odd miracle you haven't heard, you should also check out...

I was late teens when they came out, and they were one of my favorite groups. These Eyes is great, but so are American Woman, Laughing, Undun, No Sugar Tonight, No Time, and Share the Land. American Woman is actually the first one of their songs I ever heard. Good one, guys! Thanks for that!

This is a 60s classic rock song, one of the best from that era, I was kid growing up in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California and I remember this song playing on the radio and I instantly loved it 😎

beautiful song. the mix is perfect. the way they bring the instruments in layers. those strings on the bridge. and the lyric heart wrenching. Burton on vocals is the cherry on top. His tenor voice climbing each chorus. Such strong vibrato on the sustains. Magnifique.

This song always makes me think of the scene in Superbad where Evan gets stuck in the room with the older guys at the house party and is mistaken for someone else and forced to sing...this is what he goes with. Pretty hilarious!

The 1960's music accelerated exponentially during this phenomenal decade. The Guess Who I remember well.
The Spiral Staircase's "More Today Than Yesterday"
Spanky and Our Gang's "Like To Get To Know You"
The Association's "Windy"
Classics IV's "Stormy"
Billy Joe Royal's "Cherry Hill Park"
Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride"
Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman"
The O'Kaysions' "Girl Watcher"
The Rascals "A Beautiful Morning"
The Intruders "Cowboys to Girls"
Friends of Distinction "Love or Let Me Be Lonely"
These are just a few of the songs I vividly remember from that small window of time that passed too soon.

I was 9 when this came out, but being the baby of my family this song was played by my sister, over and over! 3 siblings older than me made all the songs from the 60's part of my childhood.

'No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature' is another great song from The Guess Who that's worth a listen.

Excellent voice of Burton Cummings, excellent musicianship on this. This is a very mature song written by guys in their 20s.

And while they were a Canadian band, they recorded almost all their big hits at a studio in Chicago, in a building that no longer exists, a couple of blocks from where I work. I had my old iPod on shuffle one day, and as was crossing the Chicago river where that building used to be, a Guess Who song came on. Spooky and way cool.
