How to Disassemble and Repair a Shark Steam Mop - Broken Hose \ Tube

After posting the video on how to repair a broken handle on my Shark Steam Mop, a few people asked how to take the unit apart and how to replace the tube that split. I took a few minutes today and made this video to help those who may need help disassembling their Shark Steam Mop. A symptom that the hose may be split on your shark steam mop would be no steam to the mop head and steam coming from the body of the mop reservoir \ heating unit.

Long live ingenuity....the handle you made completely rocks. Not being crude, but are you Polish?
If so...it is truly a fine day for our heritage.

Mark - YOU ARE AWESOME!! i LOVE the fact that you took it apart to see what was going on....I love to know how things work.... Just today i started having the same issue you had. I cant wait to do the simple tube change out. Keep up the great work - we should NOT have to throw away as many things as we do these days. You are a great example - of how with just a little curisousity and thought things can get back working! Thank you for taking the time to make the video. YOU ROCK!!

You are absolutely right ! It is called Consumerism that started in 1950s. I still remember my grand father fixing everything and anything that can be fixed with simple tools and a little bit of patience!

Thanks for posting. I was going to trash the unit and buy a new one but this helped me avoid the expense. I have a newer version and to access the port, I had to unscrew the cylinder. I cut out the damaged portion of the tube and put it back on. Just unscrew the side screws that hold the cylinder and pull it up to access the inlet.

Thanks for your time and effort in making the video and sharing it. My mop is a newer model but 5 to 7 years old; heater assembly is completely rusted. I tried almost all the methods described in YouTube videos. After several days of trying different methods, finally I tore off one of the heat resistant tubes and panicked. By that time I had already visited your video and was thinking to replace the tube the way you did. However, I had already lost my patience by that time and tried to just adjust the existing tube (now which is shorter). I had to remove the spring from inside the tube to reuse it, which is not recommend though. Thank you - a great video and I liked it. I had to drill through the check valve, and had to take out the tubes and reattach them a few times. Since the tube was already old and the clamps were all rusted, it was hard to remove the tubes and reattach them and make air tight. That resulted in tearing off the tube at one end. Finally all worked out and there was excellent steam flow like new. I tested the mop after fixing it for hours and mopped the floors.

Thanks for posting this. I do have a newer one and that is my issue. It seems impossible to take apart. Hopefully someone will post a video on disassembling that one.

This worked for me! Thanks for the help! Luckily, I did not have to replace the hose; it just needed reattached. Great video! Upvoted.

Isn't it amazing that your video is still helping out those of us who are mechanically impaired...Just saw the  date you first posted it and here it is March 2016...  Still using the steam mop and w/your help trying to keep it steaming...Do you post for other things?  I'm sure I know nothing about heavy machinery like a Sherry

2day is trash day&i was goin 2 throw my Shark away but I thought I'd check on here 4 any suggestions, I'm goin 2 attempt this hopefully I can get it back 2 working order. It's not giving any steam so I'm sure it's clogged. If I can't then I'll pass it 2 my husband but I'm a lil stubborn when it comes 2 that! Lol! I love that u used a broom handle, whatever works! Thanks 4 the video😊

Thank you! I fixed my Shark! I love this floor cleaner and would have hated to buy a new one. I put the steam tube back into the hole. The tube had pulled away from the head and the spring had popped out. I don't know how long it will stay because I didn't know how to put a clamp on that small area.

I believe I must have a busted hose as you suggest in your video as I have steam coming out of the body. I took it apart and didn't notice a split hose, but will give it another shot. My problem with the disassembly was finding a phillips that was skinny and long enough to get to the screws. Also, getting the clamp back ON took myself and an extra pair of hands. Wish me luck!

Excellent post my friend ! I just got off the phone with Shark customer service telling him the hose that feeds the mop head from the top of the heater outlet housing popped off & I got it all back together & just need to know where the SPRING goes ? He says to me " well the mop is NOT made to take apart " I dont know where it goes but I can sale you a new one for a big discount $50.00... normally $99.00... lol LOL ! Not made to take apart... what a joke ! Anyway... in my case the hose didnt break or split it just popped off the top of the heater. If you pump it up to much like I did I guess it builds up too much pressure & popped off the hose. I had no idea where the spring went really but the only place I could figure was inside the hose since it was the only thing that came loose & spring shot out. What was really bothering me is why the hose would have a spring inside. You answered my Question so thx again for a great post ! My model is the Shark® Light and Easy Steam Mop Model #: S3251 but looks the same on the inside... thx again!

Regards,

Dale B.

Yeah, the spring goes inside the tube that goes into the heater. It's to stop the tube pinching.

My issue is trying to find a place that sells the silicone tubing as I couldn't find anywhere that had the right diameter, or little clamps to keep them fixed.

I'd like to see how to repair a broken handle without using a broomstick. How does it get put back together? What does the inside of the handle look like and how can it be repaired?

valve where tube attaches to heater stripped. silicone sleeve inside tore. any ideas?
You are a genius, I like your fixes and figure you would know what to do

I have the same exact problem with mine. I fixed it once by pulling the tube, cut off the end and reconnecting to the heating unit. The problem now is that the tube doesn't have enough slack to be cut and reattached. I need a new hose. Will try to look around to see if I can find something. Otherwise, it'll have to go into the trash =(.
