100 photos of classic Volvo cars, such as 122S Amazon, P1800 and 164, make up this Swedish car photos video. Having been brought up on a diet of Volvo 121 then 144S back in the 1970s, it was no surprise that in later years I'd be drawn to classic cars, and classic Volvos in particular. My first was a 1960s 121 Amazon bought for the princely sum of £50 that I put back on the road, and that was followed in later years by a 122S (owned twice) plus various parts cars, a PV544, and a 1953 PV444. Not particularly flashy, I like the good solid heavy-duty build construction of these older Volvos, the re-assuring clunk of the door as you shut it, the well-laid out interior with few if any unnecessary frills, and all-round common-sense approach to things.
In this video I've gathered up 100 photos of classic Volvos (mainly 1950s - 1970s plus a few 1980s) seen in various locations over the years. Given their popularity in historic rallying, a number of the cars featured have been prepared for active competition use, while others are at classic car shows, runs and elsewhere.
If you have experiences of old Volvos, please pop a note into the comments. There are a few models that I would have liked to include but alas I didn't have photos to hand of - these include the Bertone 262C, the 264 and 265, and the pre- PV444 cars, but hopefully this selection will be of interest to Volvo enthusiasts out there.
Models featured include the following:
Volvo 164 & 164E
Volvo PV444 saloons & chassis/cab (pickup)
Volvo PV544 road & rally cars
Volvo P1800S
Volvo Amazon 120 series - 121, 122S, 123GT, 133GT (plus 221 estates)
Volvo 140 series - 142, 144, 144S, 145 estate
Volvo 244DL & later 240
Volvo 760 Limousine
Volvo 850 estate (BTCC)
After you're finished here, please see the channel's homepage for more videos about classic cars:
Thanks, RJ.

Love the styling of the early p1800s with the cow horn bumpers.Just seems to me that when ever car manufacturers in the sixties had styling updates, to me they never seem to be as good looking as the original!Great video!

I miss my 760 estate - best car I've ever had in over 60 years of motoring.

It's great that videos like this exist. I've got a PV444L undergoing restoration (very slowly, given COVID and my remote location) and an 850 estate being given the BTCC homage treatment. Keeps me motivated seeing finished cars!

Such a shame we never got the PV series cars with right hand drive. Great looking car and tough as old boots.

I have a particular soft spot for the 164. I love straight six engines and I can imagine the 164 being an excellent home for one.

Learned to drive on a 1967 144s, as did my sister. To pay for our gas, we collected beer bottles and took them to the Brewers bottle return. 36 dozen bottles per load- impressive. Later, we had a 1961 PV544 Sport with the B16B engine. Got hit from behind by a Chevy Camaro, which was totalled (and he deserved it!). I had to go buy a used tail light lens. Then I had to hammer out the bent bumper supports (maybe an hour and a half of work) and had one of dad's welders reattach the exhaust tip. The chrome bumper was a bit scarred, but that was about all the old girl had to show for it. I still miss it.

I’ve got a 67 210 wagon. Good body. Brakes disintegrated. Not sure I want to keep it. Second owner since 1975.
Any interest or opinions out there?
