Fastest Countries to Become a Citizen

One of the most commonly asked questions we receive here at Nomad Capitalist is: What is the fastest way to get the second passport and become a dual citizen?

There are four different ways to do it, depending on your needs - some more, some less quick:

- citizenship by investment, which may be the fastest option, in cases of St Kitts and Nevis or Vanuatu;
- citizenship by descent, mostly connected with European countries and Canada, with UK and Ireland being the quickest options;
- citizenship by naturalization, where the "best" countries, in this case, are Dominica, Peru, Armenia, etc.
- citizenship by marriage, that could be tricky, but also worth considering.

The bottom line is - know your end goal and what you want to achieve by gaining that second citizenship and choose wisely.

2:31 - Citizenship by descent
3:52 - Naturalization
5:43 - Citizenship by marriage

In Turkey it takes around 3 to 4 months to get a citizenship

Invest $250K on property and you and your family are entitled to citizenship
I think that is fast and relatively cheap.

I am a French and permanent resident in the USA. I will have dual citizenship this year. Where should I go after? I like old Europe more than NYC now.

Thank you Andrew for all the good work.
I am American looking for a safe and cheap place to retire on $1000 a month.
I would like to go somewhere where I can become a resident and then a citizen.

Japan requires 5 years of continuous residency and paying taxes. Just got my passport this April after a year from the date of applying. For the best passport in the world, 6~7 years isn’t bad at all. Although you need to know enough Japanese up to secondary school level. Cost of the application itself is free.

Hey there. Unfortunately I don't come from a decent country and I do need another citizenship to escape my own passport. I don't like their customs I don't belong to them. I am about to finish my degree and I am desperate for a country that will accept me and give me a way out. So if anyone got any ideas or advice please let me know. Ty!

Andrew, do you have any comment on US brokerages closing accounts of US citizens living abroad? I've seen some reports of this online. Thanks!

Why don't you ever talk about brazilian citizenship by marriage? I hear you can apply for citizenship after 1 year of being married to a brazilian citizen...or maybe they've changed things?

For Argentina, exactly how many days per year do you have to be inside Argentina borders to qualify for the citizenship?

🤣😂 Andrew’s comments on “marrying for citizenship.”

If you have insurance experience marry a Bermuda girl or guy and you will be on the top of the list for extremely high paying low stress and tax free (up to the FEITC limit; I think it’s around $110, 000) insurance jobs in Bermuda.

Gay marriage just became legal in Bermuda in 2016. So it works if you want to marry the same sex!

I jokingly had this Bermuda plan for years but then I met my Dominican girlfriend (now fiancée) who will be my wife in 2021.

There just wasn’t enough Bermudians around me. Best to meet Bermudians you don’t mind marrying by just chilling in Bermuda. Bermuda has an digital nomad 1 year residency program now. It was just announced like a month or two ago. So you got one year to find your wife!
