I actually just bought the American version of this set loose, but complete, at a local antique mall. The large pieces were in a bag with a price. All of the other parts, suit, helmet, etc. we’re priced separately. I didn’t know what I had until I ran across this video on YouTube doing research on it. WOW!!!! 😃.

The Green Beret, Space Explorer, & the really rare G. I. Jane Action Nurse were vintage Joes I wish I had. Appreciate the level of detail these videos have. Really informative. Please post more new ones soon.

I had the space suit for the Six Million dollar man (very nice one too, with gloves). Never knew Action Man had one too!

Great great great review & the toy was every boy's dream. I am more partial to the more traditional astronaut with helmet and visor, but this is beautiful. The shared concepts between the two companies was amazing. I think every boy born in the 60s and 70s wanted to be an astronaut at some point in their lives. This set allowed boys to pretend to blast off in a milk carton rocket, space walk to save the satellite, or to perform repairs on Space Lab, then splash down in the pool or bathtub as milk cartons were waxed cardboard; they float. Too much of my own childhood I guess, but great toy!

Really wanted the mid 70s Action Man Astronaut. With talking back pack. Sadly it was too expensive. So it stayed on my local toy shop shelve slowly gaining dust!

Hi again Tony, hope you're well. Great vid. I have both the VAM Space Explorers and a (the) GIJ Space Adventurer loose figures, 1 complete, the other nearly 95% there. I had one of the VAM versions as a kid (c.Xmas 1973/4) and it was my favorite even back then, only just wish Dad had stored away the packaging!. I agree, there were 2 VAM versions. My original set came with orange jet pack + white pulley hood, white arms, orange pick-up arm, silver grey camera and orange rings. The other version came with white jet pack, orange hood, orange arm, white pick up, silver grey camera and white rings. As with other Palitoy the colour contrasts could easily have been mixed and matched somewhat, based on how the assembly line worker felt or had to hand at the time of packaging, just as long as the arms matched. Think 2-tone racing overalls (sewn by peacemeal workers often at home in Hong Kong), where there are over a hundred possible differing combinations. The GIJ version I have, came with (not a white) but shiny off-white light cream jet pack, hood, arms, pick-up, rings, helmet colour and red camera. Can offer pic's if interested. Strangely, I see everyone rave at the VAM set's uge rarity, with collectability being very much based on that, but to be fair loose parts for it and even complete figures are very often on ebay, yes for inflated prices, but still much easier to acquire than a number of other sets/figures/items/packaging etc. For example it's just taken me 15 yrs collecting to get hold of 3 Rocket/Missie Launcher last issue baggies - incredibly rare! Also, 2 of only of about 9* last issue bagged Atomic Men remaining. * Based on A.Hall's book (2) + 2 I have + 4 a contact I have know's about + 1 sold a while back on Ebay. I've been told about a Canadian collector that apparently owns a trade box of them, but I've still to be substantiated? Then you've got the vacuum blown diorama scenes that are almost impossible to find. As fantastic as the VSE is, I'd still trade it for a boxed Missile Assault outfit any day! Took me just as long to assemble a complete loose outfit in nice condition (got some spares if anyone's interested?). ;-)) Cheers...

Brilliant review I am lucky I have both the GI Joe and Action Man uniforms, complete with helmets and boots but have had to use the blue flying adventure arms for the rocket pack and the claw is missing from the arm. Still one of the jewels of my collection.

I grew, up in the adventure team era, and in Florida close to Cape Canaveral. So rockets shaking the dishes in the house was a standard thing..really like this set. I always considered the adventure team GI Joe as a combination of the undersea world of Jacques Cousteau and James Bond..

Great videoTony. I only had one 12” Joe when I was a kid. However I did have the Super Joe Commander. That you showed towards the end and I picked one up at the flea market the other day for $3. Keep up the great work

I have my Joe set, but I am still looking for the blue string line to complete it. Need the comic book, but I do have a nice instruction sheet. It is a great set to display.

Just a slight fly into the ointment Tony, FYI (just in case you weren't aware), the flight line handle & hook on both the VAM and GI versions were light blue, but certainly the later Flying Rescue set with red/navy blue jet pack..
