Quantity vs. Quality? What should Small Channels do?

To be successful on YouTube you need to be good at what you do... So which approach will make you better faster? 12 videos per year, focusing on quality or 104 videos focusing on quantity?

In this video I look into this question and share with you why my opinion has completely changed.

Check out the full Joe Rogan interview with Mr Beast on Spotify, just search "Mr Beast Joe Rogan" - It's packed full of insightful information for us aspiring YouTubers who want to gain subscribers and make more money.

The age-old-question: quantity or quality? Which will make you better?

I used to think that focusing on quality was the best way to achieve success here on YouTube. That if I spent more time trying to produce the best content possible, I would gain subscribers faster, get more views and ultimately make more from adsense monetization in less time.

But, I've come to realise that if you want subscribers and views on this platform you need to add lot's of value to your audience. And when we are starting off, we can find it difficult to do this while trying to learn all the essential skills a YouTuber needs (editing, script writing, presenting, making thumbnails etc.).

While focusing on quality at the beginning sounds like a good idea, for me it held my progress back.

It's like lifting weights in a gym, you can't expect to be able to lift extremely heavy weights with no experience. Similarly, we can't expect to be able to make videos that get millions of views if we've only made 10 videos in our life.

Even if you're knowledgeable, you still need the experience of implementing this knowledge correctly, which takes time and many videos.

That's why Mr Beast's advice really only applies to those YouTubers with the foundational skills mastered.

So moving forward (although I will find it extremely difficult) I'm going to be focusing on balancing quantity with quality. This way I can learn faster and become the creator I always wanted to be.

I hope you enjoyed the video and please let me know what you think.

You're really great. Everything is on point: personality, niche, production value etc. Your sub count literally makes me depressed. I hope it is a bad joke, a blip in the system and everything straightens out and you can reach 1k subs in three months the latest. (I know you will - keep up the weekly posting schedule and there'll be no question about it.)

Oh well done! This is the 2nd video of your that I've watched & I had to subscribe. The message here was great, as was the scripting, audio, video editing, music. I really want to put out quality videos, too. It takes me so long but I'm a perfectionist (not sure that's a good thing). And as a viewer, I just want to watch videos that are authentic and show original thought.

hey man your videos are awesome! I can only hope to get half as good as you are currently. I'm pretty sure your channel is due to pop off sometime in the near future.

Your videos are so clear and valuable. As a small creator, the focus should be on having fun and learning the skillset as for most small creators, youtube is something to do in their spare time to relax.

As someone who's full time job is in media, opening the Adobe suite after work after staring at it in work all day is daunting. It simply wouldn't happen if I didn't enjoy the process and keep it fun. Nothing kills the fun bug faster than playing the numbers game and losing! You should make videos in what you're interested in, and the people who have the same interests will find you.

Keep up the good work

For me the problem is rather the idea of perfection. I think a lot of people have this problem.
I r been focusing on quantity with good enough quantity on my videos and accepting it won't be perfect.

Has made it much easier for me to post and create.

This is one of the best video on quality vs quantity that I have watched. Good example using the benchpress simile as it is so so true. The very least, we will get more faster and efficient with production and editing. Making a video would be less effortless with repetition. Even though my videos r simple they still take hours to make but I noticed wif practice, i cut down the time required with each new video I publish. If we would be like fret over and overthink the quality part, guess nothing will be done 😅. Very good video 👍

Just discovered your channel. This video was really good input as I'm working on putting my own thoughts on consistency into a video.
Looks like we are on a similar path.

Quality is subjective, quantity is objective. So, quantity!

You could also run it like you do in the gym. Quantity for the most part and then max out in quality on special occasions. A showpiece as a gift for the viewers.
