Vittoria Peyote XC Race Tire: Fast enough to blow your mind?

Want a really fast Italian designed tyre that gets sketchy in the wet or at low pressure but doesn't show any wear after several 100km? You'd best watch me go on (and on, and on, and on) about the latest Vittoria Peyote tyre then. In case the thumbnail didn't give it away, this one is a bit of a mad one, so good luck getting to the end!

It's great to see a dedicated XC race tire in a 2.4" width. 2.2" just isn't enough for a lot of tracks.

I tried a Barzo/Mezcal 2.35" front/rear combo of my Chisel after seeing so very many endurance, bikepacking racers use them. They need fast, reliable and light tyres and I have to say, I'm very impressed and can definitely see why they get used so much by such folk. A huge difference is that I now don't hate riding an MTB on long tarmac sections and despite that, they are also very fast and grippy on the rough stuff too.
Most boring and drama free tyres I've ever used and that is a very good thing. They just seem to work very well, even in our soggy winters and on our rocky trails. Not noticed any of the potential issues you mentioned, but I may be running a few PSI higher than yourself. 20-22psi

Thanks for the review,

I've been eyeing the Vittoria Peyote since I first saw them at Sea Otter Classic last April. They are definitely going on my new build - Scott Scale 940.

Cheers!

Running the Mezcal/Peyote 2.4” on the Front/Rear of my Specialized Chisel HT. Been running it through Scottish ‘summer’ on mostly gravel/light xc rides.

Absolutely love the combo. Impressive amounts of grip while rolling like greased lightning. I’m surprised at how decent the grip is in the wet and they only get out of sorts in the mud. I agree on your comments about how lively they feel, however I think the robustness works well for me (I’m heavy at 115kg). I run them full speed into sharp granite and I’ve had not a whisper of a puncture.

Going to roll with them until autumn/winter properly sets in up here then the Barzo/Mezcal is going back on. I’m shocked at the apparent lack of wear after several hundred miles on them!

Iv got this on rear & new mezcal on front, after your review of the mezcal & running at highs pressures I increased to 21 & 23 I’m loving them both, typically I ran lower pressures but this combo is a game changer “ for me anyway “

form my adventure riding is super - peyote plus peyote
I rode it with syerra and it good combo traction and speed, I still have to try them terreno back peyote front
I used to ride these sets with a rim with an internal width of 25 mm, now I'm changing to 27 mm, I think it's the golden mean between width and driving qualities

I'm running barzo/mezcal 120tpi on my xc ht ( schwalbe for the last 10 years) and the speed and grip are great but now you've said about the folding, you are bang on. I thought it was my narrow crest rims but ray and ralph never did this.

Antoine using this on Crest MK4 rim? Is it a good rim for light rider?

Looks interesting. Good substitute for a Mezcal for some UK multi terrain ultras? Sometimes I feel I could do with some more grip but wouldn't want to lose the speed of the Mezcal on the tarmac

Thanks for the video, I was very curious about this new Peyote. I ride 16-18 psi + Vittoria air liner in rear. Would you recomend peyote/peyote or peyote/mezcal or other fast rolling combinations for mostly dry but universal marathons?

I'm waiting for the new Vittoria LSD or maybe the Opium...

How would you compare this to Maxxis Rekon Race? They came on my hardtail and are shockingly good leaning on flat corners.

Love it in the rear, especially climbing feels lighter/faster. However what to run in the front? The mezcal feels too unstable for me

Volume apart, how would it compare to Continental Race King or Schwalbe Thunder Burt, because I have experience with those two and they have a very low rolling resistance and are super fast tires ? Thank you for the review.

Have you ever tried the continental race king and cross king tires? thoughts on those?

I bought a pair and found they lose 25% pressure overnight. Is this normal? Seems to be reliant on sealant (which isnt the case with other brands)...

What do you think about mount these on a 25 mm internal rims?
