Dual and multi extrusion 3d printing is awesome, but it often requires a fair bit of calibration to get it working correctly. For the XY offsets, the typical method involves printing a calibration print, taking measurements, and repeating the process until you are happy with the results. In today's video we take a look at the CXC from Ember Prototypes. The CXC is a USB camera that paired with their Windows Application can greatly speed up this process. We will look at the traditional method, the camera method, and go through the process with the Sovol SV04.

Like the idea, but couldn't you just buy a very similar looking camera module from our Chinese friends for dirt cheap, print a housing with magnets glued in on the back and some LEDs on the front, use the standard software, and work out the offsets with an excel sheet? Only thing you'd have to figure out is the cross, if there is no generic software that will do that for you. Some transparent plastic and a fineliner could solve that 🤷‍♂️

This sounds like a nice way to get an abl probe offsets as well :)

I was thinking of something along these lines, but using an Opulo LumenPnP (a great open source PnP machine) derived camera.

Unlike this it would be in a fixed (or maybe rc type servo flip out?) a d would check the nozzles before each print etc

This would allow for alignment, but *also* nozzle cleanliness / wear monitoring!

Thanks for this video. I believe this camera system will be a great tool to have. I have been in the process of building a core x, y, duel extrusion machine. Also been experimenting with multiple hot ends and layouts, so calibrating nozzle offsets is getting old. Looking forward to try it.

Awesome! Wouldnt buy another Flashforge printer, but their calibration wizard on their idex printers is pretty decent. You still have to do a few small prints, but it is fairly quick/easy compared to a lot of other idex machines I have seen.

Great video! I still can't believe the SV04 has to home the entire printer just to move the right tool head 😅

You certainly have some very informative videos! Keep up the great work! Would this camera work with printers that have more than two extruders?

If you move the left extruder back over before switching it'll let you move the right extruder over. If you just hit switch and it homes the left toolhead it saves the "last position" of the left toolhead as a soft limit for the right toolhead. Still wonky, but less of a pain than a full XYZ homing.

Could you make a video about leveling a prusa style MK52 bed with 9 screws and the nyloc mod. But now with klipper and mansail?

Hey, not related to the video but based on your experience with both Lerdge IX and Kingroon Kp3S, which did you like most?

Is there a way to run the SV04 with Octoprint? If so can you do a video or point me in the right direction. What about Klipper? Thanks.

I am curious can this SV04 be upgraded with Klipper firmware? 60mm/s is too slow

yes this is defenly cool but.
if the software was open source it cound probably be made so you can use youre phone (while android at least) to do and it will be even more available if you didn't need the hardware

Hi, When will they have them in stock?

Why don't you just stick it to the base of the printer under the build plate so when you go to Y=0 it's exposed at the bottom edge of the build plate and might even be the right distance from Z? This would only work if Y = 0 is far enough to go past the edge of the build plate, but it does on things like ender3.
