Sometimes you’ve just got to START! 💪
When we face something new where we’re uncertain of the end result, we might procrastinate and delay…
Why?
Because of our expectations about the outcome and weight we place on achieving the desired end-state…
“What if I don’t succeed?”
“What if they don’t like it?”
“What if it’s not up to standard?”
“What if I don’t get the job?”
It could also be a reflection of perfectionism, where you set such impossibly high standards that you procrastinate from taking action because you want to avoid the inevitable pain that comes with ‘failure’.
A really effective cognitive reframe is simply to CHANGE THE GOAL.
When I implemented this reframe myself it completely changed how I approached challenges and opportunities.
Instead of the ‘desired outcome’ being the goal,
Detach yourself from that expectation.
Instead,
Make the ‘FIRST STEP’ the goal.
Make ACTION the goal.
Make PROGRESS the goal.
That way, you can celebrate each time you move forward, and doing so also triggers the dopamine reward pathway so you’ll find each additional step becomes that much easier. 💪
