The trench water from russia makes sense, heres why:
In 1914, the germans attacked the russian positions at Osowiec with poision gas, and then moved 12 battalions into the fields. When the germans arrived, they saw the poor russians without gas masks standing up, from the dead, almost as "reviving themselves" described by the germans. This obviously scared the germans, making them retreat in fear, even falling in their traps. This incident is reffered to as "the attack of the dead men"
