In an address to the UN Security Council on 30 October 2024, Mr. Cheikh Niang, Chair of the UN Palestinian Rights Committee, emphasized the "profound urgency to reach a ceasefire in Gaza," the "escalating threat to the United Nations operations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory," and the "imperative for implementation of the significant General Assembly resolution regarding the ICJ Advisory Opinion." He condemned the "unimaginable destruction and civilian casualties and gross violations of international law" in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, criticizing the Security Council's "passive tolerance of the killing and maiming of civilians and wanton destruction of civilian property" wrongly justified by Israel as "self-defense."

there are so many conversations about the “thing” and as we “enjoi” the rhetoric, the “thing” is getting worse and worse. as he’s speaking, people are dying, if not from bombs and bullets, from starvation, sickness and broken hearts from grief….this has happened under everyone’s watch, we are all watching, the people that are supposed to handle this simply aren’t…so we all just keep talking about it. how do we stop this? all of this inaction screams that this was/is planned and “ok” globally….these are crimes against humanity. arrest/detain leaders, force them in a room, make them work it out. sanctions even….
