Jeep introduces a genuine lifestyle option to the tightly-fought 4x4 dual-cab utility segment.

The Jeep Gladiator brings a slightly left-field and rugged option to the competitive dual-cab ute segment. Tested here in off-road Rubicon trim, the Gladiator also introduces genuine off-road credentials to the class out of the box, plus plusher coil sprung suspension and a petrol V6. Are those factors enough to overcome the Gladiator’s sub-par towing and payload capacities? Sam Charlwood put the new model to the test to find out.

I own one of these amazing fun machines and after 22k in 6 months the Jeep Gladiator experience just gets better and better. Getting fuel economy as good as 8.9l//100km as well as the fact this engine is quick off the mark. That's better fuel economy then most other SUV utes on the market. Add the European style comfort with American proven quality, this ute is the true Dark Horse in our Aussie market especially with a price tag cheaper than LandCruiser, Colorado's and all the other brands. Do yourself a favour if your on the market for a ute. Look at this fun machine as a way of signalling your independence away from the rest of the sheep buying boring brands. You won't be able to take the smile off your dial once you get one. Enjoy.

Jeep have done themselves no favours in recent years but we owned a JK unlimited and had absolutely no issues. Took it to Vic high country and other challenging places and it never let us down.

If it was sold in Australia with a decent 6 cylinder Diesel engine, it would sell very well.
Higher GVM and GCM is also needed.
As it is, it has a lot of potential, but very compromised with petrol motor that lacks torque.
Only 347 nm !!
Needs at least 500 nm, and
600 nm would be ideal.
No wonder it sells in very low numbers.
Huge missed opportunity by
Jeep Australia

The jl wrangler and gladiator, I think after having owned one is the only saving grace for Jeep and (well at least for me) have been reliable, unfortunately now with a hike in price it pushes them out of there own customer base, along with a terrible dealer network (at least in Qld ) they can’t expect the sales they did with the Jk. Hopefully we get a bronco sometime soon

one major issue i see is the taillights getting taken out by a tree or rock or something, but i managed to find flush fitting aftermarket ones which is something.

The engine oil isn't going to be very affective after 5000 klm never mind 12000 klm during the run in process, a tub you cant put a bike in and no where to sleep

When i think about my old straight 6 petrol land cruiser where at high speeds you could actually see the fuel gauge moving down, this thing runs on an oily rag

why are we so insistent on diesels? my Toyota has gone through 2 turbos, the injectors need to be replaced as regular as timing belts and towing they are as thirsty as a petrol v8 from the 80's without the power, then the emission problems you have to overcome for reliability, why aren't we looking at petrol cam chain driven engines with live axles? its got a zf gearbox, i wonder if it would last longer then 220k on my Hilux for its first

What's the towing and load capability on one of these ?
No technical data listed on the jeep website in my country.

You could have a holiday in Vagas or buy a ' Jeep '. Both would be considered gambling.

$75k knocking on the door of a 79 series cruiser... wishful thinking. I’d consider it in my decision making at $40k to $50k even then I wouldn’t buy it, just consider it and take it for a test drive.
